Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Print Envelopes to HP4100

    HI

I am trying to print envelopes to an HP4100 with and envelope feeder. I have selected the default bin, tray 1, and tray 2. Results are negative. Only the 8 /12 by 11 paper prints with envelope address data properly formatted.

In addition, I have change the size of the form to match a #10 envelope. No good.

If I accept the default settings when creating the envelope the message Bad Margin or Paper size is displayed.

    any help is greatly appreciated.

    thanks

    Envelopes can be exasperating!

Are you doing this as a report layout, or a label layout?

After verifying the page dimensions match your envelope stock, I'd set printer to landscape mode, and select the bin at print time. Is this what you are attempting?

I should add that because of my own troubles with envelope stock, I mostly print labels now, and stick them on the envelopes by hand.

        tom:

yes to all questions. I have attempted trays and stock settings. I noticed that the default setting for the envelope places it beyond the margin. I adjust for this. Now the printer must be forced to envelope.

A5 treats the envelope as a large label on an 8 1/2 by 11 piece of paper. I have even changed the paper size to the size of the envelope. Same result.

software so sensitive that the slightest miss representation causes a kernel failure. Don't rember the message but A5 crashes.

Lables will not be accepted by this client.

        thanks for your input.

          Bob,

I wrestled with this until I was blue in the face. For me, the fix was to eliminate the print dialog from appearing. It seems the the HP driver on my system was receiving a reset-to-default when the print dialog appeared. I now design my forms to just print and forget the preview option. Here is how my form is laid out now:

          page margins: all .5 in.
          page layout: landscape
          Page size: Envelope #10
          Printer: use default printer
Show printer setup on print: UNCHECKED

          Hope this helps you.

Thanks , but no dice. Error messages continue. Bad margins or paper size.

I will try a database compact.

              Bob,

I resolved this issue by installing a second copy of the printer and formatting the printer for envelopes only. I call it "envelope". Appaarently ALPA and HP don't communicaate very well when you go from regular paper sizes (8.5 X 11 or 8.5 x 14) to special sizes (Envelopes). Set the printer specifically for envelope and they communicate well.

                RE: Print Envelopes to HP4100

                Hi:
I would like to thank everyone who responded to my request for help printing envelopes on the HP4100.

I researched the the msg board and found something that worked.

I redesigned the envelope as a report. The Report Setting let me select the Hp4100 and the #10 env. using the default bin.

I created an RTF that resembled a #10 envelope then inserted the fields for printing.
                Works well.

That tells me that there is a problem with the envelope software under the Labels tab. The messages about margins and paper size are A5 driven. the A2print.dll failed and the mf40.dll(not sure on this one). aborting A5.

The report module accepted the envelope assignment with out a hitch.

Again thanks for your assistance and encouragement.
