Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    OnRowDoubleClick to find

    I have a QC application with records in a single table for 6 machines and use indexes to sort by machine to view the results. These indexes use the invert sort so I can see the latest data at the top of an embeded browse.

    So, I am in the entry screen and push a button to see the results for the machine on the screen. That takes me to a form with an embed browse to see the history. Now I want to double click on a row in the browse to see the detail for any particular row.

    The problem is that the detail screen always displays the first record. The index_set command works, but the formpointer.find(serialnumber) command does not seem to work. Is this because of the inverted sort, or could it be something else?

    Pat:

    Make sure you refresh the form/browse after the find.

      RE: OnRowDoubleClick to find

      Pat,

      I had a lookup built with a form.find()based on a 5 char teacher id string (fiche). I changed the index expression to invert(fiche) and the find failed.

      However, if I left the expression as fiche and changed the sort order to descending the find worked.

      Hope this gives you a bit of leverage.

        RE: OnRowDoubleClick to find

        Finian, Thanks, but I did the resynch and it didn't help.

        William, I'll try that when I can, but for now the table is in use 24 X 7 so I can't change the indexes.

        in the meantime, I tried picking up the serial number from the browse and using the table.fetch_find method in the on activate event on the detail form. That also failed. I passed the serial number successfully and set the index successfully, but the fetch_find returned a negative number and the form displayed the first record. I even tried doing the fetch_find on the first record serial number and that failed too!

        Rats! I didn't want to have to come in to work on the 4th!

          RE: OnRowDoubleClick to find

          when you double click a row in the embedded browse, are you opening a form containing only the one record from the browse?

          if so, I do this a lot
          I have a global variable CNUM (customer number)
          at the onrowdouble click event I say
          tbl=table.current()
          var->cnum=tbl.customer_number
          form.view("thenewform")
          on thenewform, put as a filter, customer_number=var->cnum

            Don't use anything on the OnActivate event of the other
            form - it shouldn't be necessary. Code like this should
            work:
            rec=table.current(2).recno()
            ' if the browse is
            ' table.current(1), then change the line to
            ' rec=table.current(1).recno()
            f=form.load("detail form") ' use your form name
            ' use your table name for DetailTable below
            f:Tables:DetailTable.filter_expression="between(recno(),"+
            alltrim(str(rec))+","+alltrim(str(rec))+")"
            f:Tables:DetailTable.query()
            f.resynch()
            f.show()
            f.activate()

              Thank you...my holiday is saved. your suggestions put me on the right track. Seems so simple now. I didn't want to use the filter since I wanted to move back and forth in the table after looking at the detail, so I ended up with:

              dim global vSn as c
              dim frm as p
              dim rec as n
              vSn=parent:Browse1:Serial_Number.value
              vSn=alltrim(vSn)
              if vSn=""
              ui_msg_box("BLANK RECORD","Serial number is blank...cannot find")
              end
              end if
              rec=table.current().recno()
              frm=form.load("otherfix")
              frm:tables:crucible.fetch_goto(rec)
              frm.resynch()
              frm.show()
              frm.activate()
              end
