Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Dorothy,

What do you mean by, "Nothing happens"? does this mean you can oprn up the Actyion, entyer some code and the code doesn't work? Does it mean you can't get into Actions at all? Please tell us exactly what you're doing.

      RE: A5V4 Label Action Missing

I created a label and it print previews and prints correctly. I would like to have an on exit action to record the date and time of printing into fields in my table.

When I click on action - literally nothing happens. The editor does NOT open. In all other instances in this app that I am developing, the action button works as expected. Just not in the label design mode.

      Any suggestions?

        Dorothy:

To the best of my knowledge, there are no actions for labels.

You would need to attach the script to the button that initiates the print job, if there is one.

Of coarse, using a script, you could only mark the batch of records as printed, not mark each record one at a time as the corresponding label is printed.

          Craig,

That is an interesting observation. No actions on printing labels. So why is there an action button listed?

But knowing this, I can call in the label printing in a different way. Back to the drawing board...

          Thanks,

          Dorothy

While the action menu item is present in label design mode, there are no actions for labels. However, I think you would be better off doing this another way. If you have a script that records printing a report, label or letter and the printer freezes, the scipt can continue and record the record as printed when in fact only a few of the records actually made it to the printer. When I print reports, letters, etc, I create a starting variable. That way, if half print and the printer stops, I can restart at the halfway point without printing what has already been printed. Then, when the total job is complete, the operator presses another button to record the fact that the letter, label etc was printed.

              Ohlen,

Excellent suggestion. I'll work that into the scheme.

              Thanks,

                Ohlen, you state:

When I print reports, letters, etc, I create a starting variable.....
