Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    COPYING APPLICATION

I have a computer in my office and one at home. I created an application at home and would like to use it at my office and then continue with work at home.

I created an identical path ... C:progra~1a5v4joes_master on my office computer.. I copied the contents of joes_master on to a zip drive and transferred same to my joes_master folder at my office..

The startup (main menu form) that I created does not come up on my office computer nor is it listed under forms..

What am I doing wrong or does this software prohibit working on two computers which are solely owned and operated by the software licensee (myself)????

Please adv ... Appreciatively ... Joe DeFalco

    RE: COPYING APPLICATION

I do the same thing every day. I bring 4 applications back and forth on a zip drive. So it is possible. Moreover, it is not necessary that the path be the same on both machines so long as the application's files are confined to a single folder.

Having said that I have no idea where the source of your problem lies unless joes_master has several subfolders holding application files.

      Joe,

It sounds to me like you have added the table that is the basis for your main menu but it resides in another folder that is not being moved between computers.

Check to see if the table that your main menu is based on is in the folder that you are moving.

Michael ... thanks for the quick response and direction..

I used a table in a different folder but I copied it into

my current application folder and developed the main menu however it is obvious I didn't accomplish what I set out to do.. Thanks for pointing me into the right direction (folder)

              RE: COPYING APPLICATION

Michael: My problem has improved somewhat but I still am unable to activate the application from my desktop at the office... On your suggestion I transferred a table to my application folder and created a new main menu form.

I copied from my application folder ;;; progra~1a5v4hec_master to my zip drive folder ,,, hec_master.

I can activate the application from my zip drive but when I copy to my desktop the form is there but it is looking for a dbf which must be hidden because it is no where to found on my zip disk... Any thoughts ????? thk ... Joe DeFalco
