Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

RE: Cut & paste into RTF memo fields

I discovered that I can cut & paste from Wordpad, but not from Word. This seems odd to me. And if I try to import the file as Rich Text, I have the same problem of only the italicized words pasting. At least I can continue to enter data, but this seems like a bug to me. Any solutions?

Actually, this thread was originated on my behalf months ago. I tried many of the suggestions, but couldn't get them to work. I got a graphics management program called Showcase that does a great job--not everything I need, but better than what I was getting with A5. It's the new problem with not being able to cut and paste into the RTF memo field that's really got me bothered.

Hi Donald, I don't know what Alpha's limits are, but I have a larger file than that with jpeg pictures. All I have done is used an OLE field, and then use Windows Paintbrush as the program to reference the jpeg which is just kept in an ordinary folder on my main drive. Did I explain myself ok? Try it & see if it works for you.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't help. I tried it several times, but nothing.

The trick for pictures is to use bitmap objects. Putting all the pictures in one FPT makes the file humungous. Search for the thread with "pointing a record to a .jpb"

    Hi,

    Two things come to mind:

    1. After you upgraded A5 did you delete the ariel font and then bring it back from the recycle folder? Sounds strange to ask doesn't it. But if you did not do this, it will explain the italics font.

    2. I've cut and pasted with no problem into regular memo fields. With RTF, I think if you double click into the field, then select Edit/Import File (or similar) you can bring an entire file in. But cut and paste should work here also.

    Hope this helps.

Cut & paste into RTF memo fields

I'm trying to develop a research archive of historical pictures and articles. I've already pretty much given up on A5 because the file size limit keeps me from having more than a few hundred graphics before choking. But it has been still useful for the text--until I upgraded to V4.5. Ever since I upgraded, I've been unable to cut and paste articles I've scanned and OCR'd into the RTF memo fields. Actually, for some reason, it will paste any italicized words in the text, but not the regular type. I can enter info manually, but some of these articles are very long, hence the scanning. I installed the recent patch to build 266, but that didn't help either. I bought the upgrade, hoping that the new version might handle graphics better, but now I'm even worse off. Do you have any suggestions? I have a PIII, 500MHz, Asus P2B-F mobo, 2 IBM Deskstar hard drives (totaling approx.60GB), 384MB RAM. I really would appreciate finding a solution.
