By default, most HP JetDirect units come out of the box with virtually every protocol enabled. This includes AppleTalk, DLC, IPX/SPX and TCP/IP. Of those, three are consistently performing network broadcasts at regular intervals. Multiply this by the number of network connected printers, and you could have a serious problem on your hands.
