Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    auto enter value in all records

    Need help with script to enter date in all records where the date field
    is empty and for all records of a particular customer_id .

    Have a table: `invoices` which has a form: `invoices reminder`.
    In the form a date field: reminder_date

    We send fax statements to the customer. In the same table the same
    customer may have several records . we enter the date when the
    statement was faxed.

    What we trying to achieve is that when we enter the reminder date in
    any one record of a particular customer - the same date is entered in
    all the records of the same customer subject the `reminder date` is
    blank.

    Understand need variables . this part is no problem and have already
    created the variables for customer_id (custidvar) and
    remider_date (faxdatevar).

    Now how do we incorporate this in a script to achieve the above.

    Any help will be most appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    RE: auto enter value in all records

    Vasant, I'm not real sure exactly what you want to do but this script might get you pointed in the right direction.

    query.description="Reminder Dates"
    query.order = ""
    query.options = ""
    query.filter="isblank("reminder_date").AND.customer_id=custidvar"
    t = table.open("invoices")
    q=t.query_create()
    t.fetch_first()
    while .not.t.fetch_eof()
    if t.fetch_eof() = .T. then
    goto EndOfLoop
    end if
    t.change_begin()
    t.reminder_date = faxdatevar
    t.change_end(.t.)
    t.fetch_next()
    end while
    EndOfLoop:
    q.drop()
    t.close()
    end

    This script would open the invoices table, query and only let records through that have a blank reminder_date and the customer_id is equal to the custidvar. It would then fetch through them and change the blank value of the reminder_date field to the value of vaxdatevar. It would then drop the query and close the invoices table. You can modify the script if its not exactly what your looking for. I have not tested it but it should give you a general idea of one way to approach the task. There are several other ways to do this but this is the first one that came to mind. You may have to double check the quotes in the query filter.

      RE: auto enter value in all records

      thanks jeff but sorry it does not work.

      first had error message "extra character at end of expression"
      (line 4 column 1 ) so removed the quotes & it generated okay.
      while trying got the error "customer_id not found" - so put the
      customer_Id in quotes. to finally get:

      query.filter= isblank("FAX_REMINDER1").AND."CUSTOMER_ID"=custidvar

      when trying the script got the error "invalid query specified" & then
      "q. not found"

      any ideas ?? - by the way, presume the script to be on event
      "canarrive" on the fax_remider1 field ..

      rgds,

          vp. I think your query.filter expression is wrong. Check the article at Dr. Wayne's website on Mysteries of Query Syntax. www.learn alpha.com

                  dear mr lennon,

                  does not work even the `oops` one.

                  "extra characters at the end of expression".

                  anyway, thanks - i give up - guess we have to enter the date
                  manually in all records concerned.

                  rgds,
