Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Reprinting one page from a multiple page report

Thank you Peter G., Peter W., and Ira for the help and responses on My line numbering question.

Now I have another question. If I want to reprint page 50 of 99 due to a change, is there a way of doing it without reprinting the whole report or sending it to a txt file and reprinting it with something like Word or WordPerfect?

    Thank you

    Oran

Yes there is but I wonder if it depends on your printer. I have a HP693 and when the print window pops up, I can select any page I want, 1 to whatever. That has to do with HP and not A5.

Thanks Ken, but I am trying to make this not printer dependent. Laughs, not all drivers are so nice

Actually Ken, did not mean to be facesious. I am thinking of other appa like word. If you click the printer icon, it printes the whole thing. If you click on file, then print, it brings up the printer control box and lets you define what you want to print (copies, pages, etc.)

I want this to be the default for a button that I want to have that will allow the reprints of specific pages.

I had a sneaky suspicion that's what you were up to but, I thought I'd try my 2 cents worth just in case. If you find the 'magic Xbasic wand', let me know. I've got a lot of waving to do. Oh where, oh where can v5 be? Oh why, oh why ain't it here?

Seriously, if you come up with a solution, no doubt there are many who could use it.

            Hello Oran,

I'm thinking this could be tough if you are talking about reprinting a page because the data on this page has changed. The printing process is dynamic, if the data has changed the records that showed up on page 50 may now be on page 51 etc. Group headers footers, report headers, etc etc all would have to be considered. Each printer driver would also paginate differently. What about different fonts from one system to another. If you are asking if you can reprint a specific group of records, then the answer is yes, quite easily if you know what records you want. I guess I'd describe the report process as data centric not page centric. I'll be curious to see if anyone has a different slant on this.

            Good luck,
            Jim

One alternative (not exactly what you wanted) would be for Selwyn et al to restore a print preview function present in A5V1 and removed from subsequent versions. With the V1 preview there was a "Type the page you want" box at the bottom of the screen wnere you could enter 50 or 51 and have the preview go immediately to that page. Currently you have to page down or back through the preview to get to where you want to be or to guess which page range you should print, neither of which is a good choice for long reports.

Jim, you make an interesting point. But, I would assume that Alpha could program that capability nonetheless. Under such a scenario, A5 would create the same printer codes but "throw them away", until the report got to page 50, then route the printer controls to the print driver. I'm sure they could program this. Hell, they can program anything!

Thanks for the responses but I am still in need of a solution to this one.

The report that I am working on, will have the same info on page 50 of 99 as it did in the original report, the changes would be qty, price, etc., not the item description itself. So, even though the data entry person may make a change, I need to be able to bring up the windows printer dialogue box that allows you to select the pages to print, all/5-10/specific pages, and the number of copies. I am wondering if there is a sys shell call or some other way to bring it up thru a script.
