Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

  • continued - insert showdate

This is a continuation of a previous thread.

In the attached file please explain:

    1. How to insert the "Var->showdate" from calendar into the "service date" field of browse4, tabname - "Schedule by Date".

    2. Also, usually in a set, the property/filter/order shows all the tables in the set. I only see the parent table. What do you see?

    Thank You Very Much

Tom, the attachment didn't make it.

Try posting another message, then, before pushing the submit button, check the file attachment box... the rest should be self-explanatory.

If you did all that and it didn't work, maybe your file is too big? There's a 1MB file size limit.

      trying again.

        RE: continued - insert showdate

The only things included in your attachment are one table with one defined form. No browses, no variables defined for the form, no global variables for the table, no calendar, etc.
        There can be only one.

          RE: continued - insert showdate

I'll try again, but I "kinda" got it to work.

          This will set the date:

          Browse4.activate()'I was missing this line
          :Client_Poc:Browse4:Service_Date.value = showdate

and this script will duplicate the record:

but if I put the two above together it does not work! This does not work on a button.

              RE: continued - insert showdate

              Sorry, for me

I timed off the service, mine or alpha, before the file got completely uploaded. Guess I could try again as long as I'm taking up this space.

                RE: continued - insert showdate

Tom, here's how I'd write the script for Button28 (Set Date):

                ' Set Date Button
                ' 4/20/01
' Stuff value of var->showdate in the "Service Date" field of Browse4

                :Client_Poc:Browse4:Service Date.value = var->showdate

'Parentform.resynch() 'is not needed and causes browse to scroll unnecessarily

This script works well as long as a browse record is in change mode. It does not work when adding a new record, but I suspect that's due to other interactions or field rules which kick in when adding a new record. Possibly it's due to the fact that the complete database was not uploaded to the board.

Your second question about the availability of other tables in the set for setting form filter properties is a good one. I was surprised to see only the parent table available in the layout editor. Don't know why the child tables are not visible. However, your set is complex and there are many, many indexes including many filtered indexes already defined. I tried to build a simple set, linking Patients to POC_Dates, one to one and only Patients table was visible in the form's filter properties dialog.

                  Thanks Tom,

I am optimstic that I am over the hurdle. I sure appreciate your help. You also helped me with the checkbox problem I had and now the properties filter/order not showing. I have re-installed A5V4, but from the same source. I think I'll write Sylwn and ask for a fresh disk.

                  Thanks Again,
