Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    RE: form filter expression

    Ira,
    I'm not seeing how it fails. Could you give me an example to satisfy my curiousity. Thanks.

      RE: form filter expression

      Thank you all for the help.
      I got the expressions to work with a few calcualted fields. Not near as nice as some of the above inputs though.

      Thanks again

        RE: form filter expression

        Hi Bill,

        Unfortunately, John's nor my expression probally handles begining of year or end-of year crossings. I haven't checked other solutions, but it is a bit trickier than it appears and I'll bet most fail the year crossover. John's equation is probably closest in terms of creating the most compact solution.

        I know how to correct it, but will have to come back to it later today.

          RE: form filter expression

          John,

          This is a case of one of those deceptively appearing problems that appears to have a simple solution but doesn't. Here are some failing examples for your expression (and my original solution too);

          Today's Date Record Date
          01/02/2003 12/30/1960
          12/30/2002 01/02/1960

          This is a generic function that works

          function Anniversary as L(recorddate as D,begdate as D,enddate as C)
          ' begdate and enddate must be less than 1 year apart for function to work

          IsAnniversary=.F.

          ' next line checks for any input having a blank date,
          ' in which case it returns False
          If trim(cdate(begdate))=="".or.trim(cdate(enddate))=="".or.trim(cdate(recorddate))==""
          END
          End If

          Anniversary=between(ctod(left(dtoc(recorddate),6)+cyear(begdate)),begdate,enddate).or.between(ctod(left(dtoc(recorddate),6)+cyear(enddate)),begdate,enddate)

          end function

          Combining it into a single expression for the original filter expression question(assuming you don't want to use the global function) looks real messy but results in (make sure you place it all in 1 line of code);

          .not.(trim(cdate(dob))=="").and.(
          between(ctod(left(dtoc(dob),6)+cyear(date()-dow(date())+1)),
          date()-dow(date())+1,date()-dow(date())+7).or.
          between(ctod(left(dtoc(dob),6)+cyear(date()-dow(date())+7)),
          date()-dow(date())+1,date()-dow(date())+7))

            RE: form filter expression

            The equation should have had Anniversary instead of IsAnniversary. Thus corrected it looks like;

            function Anniversary as L(recorddate as D,begdate as D,enddate as C)
            ' begdate and enddate must be less than 1 year apart for function to work

            Anniversary=.F.

            ' next line checks for any input having a blank date,
            ' in which case it returns False
            If trim(cdate(begdate))=="".or.trim(cdate(enddate))=="".or.trim(cdate(recorddate))==""
            END
            End If

            ' Make sure next 2 lines are all in 1 expression line
            Anniversary=between(ctod(left(dtoc(recorddate),6)+cyear(begdate)),begdate,enddate)
            .or.between(ctod(left(dtoc(recorddate),6)+cyear(enddate)),begdate,enddate)

            end function

              Ira,
              I see what you mean.
              In your function (first line) , is enddate supposed to be Character?

                John,

                Of course not! But then you knew that. It should be type date!
