Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Cannot save Browse Object scripts

I need to assign a script to an imbedded browse onject on a form. When I attempt to assign an Action script to it, it will not save. As long as I am editing the form I can go into actions for the browse and see it. If I save and go back into design mode, it is gone. I can save actions to other objects, but not browse. Has anyone seen this before and what should I do to.

    Thanks

RE: Cannot save Browse Object scripts

    jim,
i've never used action scripting to speak of, but I do know that you can convert action scripting to xbasic.

if you can get it to save before exiting, try to get it to convert to xbasic, and then weed out what you don't need

unless someone else comes up with a better idea, and you are new to xbasic, and you fail with this, paste the "converted xbasic script here" and we can help you weed out what you don't need

Try saving the browse separately as a named browse, define the script there, and then add it to the form as a named browse. From an overall design perspective it might sound liek the same thing but maybe A5 doesn't see it that way? If that doesn't fix it I don't know. Haven't played with embedded browses in that way.

        Martin

I attmepted to use the defined action scripts in the code editor as well as converting them to Xbasic. Either way they do not save. As an example, I attach the "Play sound" script to the On arrive event for the Browse, the scipt is gone as soon as I save and go back into form design. I have tried this on 3 computers, all with the same result. I don't think it is the scipt itself that is causing the problem.

        Thanks

Jim, open your form in design mode.

Right click on the embedded browse object. Choose 'actions' from the drop down list which appears. You can attach a script to any of these events for the browse object.

            Jim, another thought.

Make sure you are saving the form after you make changes to the events assocciated with the browse.

This will feel like you save things twice. Once for the events you attach to the browse... and once for the form itself. Both are necessary.

also check "view" - "settings" - and see if the automatically save layouts is checked - if it is, usually the form changes are changed when you exit the form - the main exception is that in field rules you "must" save the changes or else they will get lost

                Tom

After looking carefully at the properties of the browse, I realized that "Embedded" was not selected. Once I selected embedded for the named browse, the scripts would attach and save. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the input. I finally found the problem which of course was me. I did not have "embedded" selected in the browse properties box. Once selected, the scipts would save.
