Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Group Break by Day of Week

I am trying to get a group break when a series of dates ends a week on saturday. I will not always have consecutive dates. I could have Monday, Friday one week skip a week and then have a Wednesday. Any ideas?

    Say a little more.

Do you want to know the week of the month or the date of the following saturday that ends that week?

Check out DOW function. Saturday=7, and DOW(YourDate)=(anotherNumber)
    So: (7-DOW(YourDate))+(YourDate)=7 (Saturday)

    You get the idea.

RE: Group Break by Day of Week

I want to do a group break if the next date falls in a different Saturday ending week. In detail section of the report, I can get the day of the week but I might have only Monday in the first week only Wednesday in the second week and only Friday in the third week. In the detail section, I can get the Julian date Subtract 2 and if it equals zero it equals saturday. In the detail section, I can also see if running variance of the Julian date is less than 8 to see if the week changes. Now how do I get the group to break on these facts.

        Dennis,

Do a break on an expression like this

        datefield-DOW(datefield)

This value will be the same for any and all dates within your week definition. Every time the values changes (and hence a new week value), it will cause a group break.

I don't know if this helps, but here's some function code I wrote for weekdays:

          upper(case(dow(YourDate)=1,"Sunday",dow(YourDate)=2,"Monday",dow(YourDate)=3,"Tuesday",dow(YourDate)=4,"Wednesday",dow(YourDate)=5,"Thursday",dow(YourDate)=6,"Friday",dow(YourDate)=7,"Saturday"))

          It wraps on screen.

I use this function a great deal to break on weekdays.

            Robert,

Your equation will not work for the reason that if you have two weekdays that are the same in a row, e.g Monday Feb 19, 2001 and Monday February 26, 2001, there will not be a break.

            On another note, you can make your equation a whole lot simpler by just saying;

            upper(cdow(YourDate))

Thanks for your help. Sometimes the answers are the most obvious. After I got done telling my self to "Keep it Simple Stupid" I used your formula and it worked perfect.
