Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    *.DLL problems continue, please help!

V4.5 upgrade. In WindowsME, getting message "a5 caused error in sh31w32.dll" & "...mfc40.dll". This happens frequently if I add data to my selected choice in a field with a simple lookup (contained in an embedded browse). Get those messages followed by an a5 shutdown. After the 3rd restart (not reboot), get a message to call a5 because I'm not licensed for network use (or something to that effect). Have to reboot to get back into a5. Got the same type of messages (pointing to different dll's) in win98. I've tried rebuilding indexes, to no avail. I've already been told this is a bug, but I need a work around, if alpha can't provide a can of Raid. Changing the info to a table lookup doesn't meet my needs, nor does not using a lookup. Thanks.

This is unlikely to be a ME issue since you get it in W98 as well and I do not get it and I have ME on one machine.

So what precisely is it that causes the issue? Perhaps it is time for a sample file.

See my earlier post. AlphaV4.5 ships with an older version of this sh31w32.dll than is currently available. I was hoping to get an Alpha tech reply as to why.

Has this particular app ever worked or is it currently being developed? The only time I would assume it was a version of Alpha or a version of windows would be when an app worked perfectly prior to an update being done. If you posted a sample app that crashes on your machine you might get to a conclusion more quickly. If Alpha techs take a look, they might would want the same thing.

I doubt it is an ME issue. I run A5 on a network mixed with Winn95/Win98/Win98SE and ME, as well as ME at home on a stand alone. Try reinstalling A5. As far as the message >>get a message to call a5 because I'm not licensed for network use

RE: *.DLL problems continue, please help!

I should probably give a little more history. I was running v3.0 in Win98 with no problems in my app. I installed v4.5 (upgrade for v3.0)from disk, and that's when the fun began. I started getting those dll error messages. Then I bought a new computer with WinME as the OS. I reloaded both versions from disk and copied my files to those folders. Still got the dll error messages, only in WinME the reference is to different dll's than in Win98. This problem (so far) only occurs in a certain field in an embedded browse that is on several forms, and it only happens when I try to add to a choice I've made from a simple lookup. I don't know what the hell is causing this, but it's extremely frustrating. Also, several people who have responded to my cries for help (I thank all of you), have suggested I download my app. so they can look at it and try it out. I don't know how to do this, and there are privacy issues concerning client information. I don't know which files to include or exclude, and I don't know the procedure or format that people are looking for to accomplish this. TIA for any further help. Bill

Perhaps you can copy the relevant files to a separate folder and zap the data?
