Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Palm type machine software compatibility

Can anyone comment on useability with, or compatability with existing, palm type based software?
I would like to transfer the database I have alread written to make compatible with a palm type unit. I just hate to spend the money on a palm that I personally wouldn't use before I know if this idea is possible. Once I know my idea is possible then I'll buy and do. I probably could do research on my own about this but hoped someone here could save me a lot of time by sharing their experiences with me.
Your comment(s) are appreciated in advance.

RE: Palm type machine software compatibility

Anthony, about a year ago, Finian Lennon put on a fantastic demo for the NY Alpha User Group. He demo'd the downloading of several tables from A5 to a Palm Pilot. Finian does use an "aftermarket" piece of software for the Palm Pilot that allows the download.

Hopefully he will see your message and reply.

I have used handDbase available at http://www.ddhsoftware.com/
You can get the desktop version for the PC and set up the application there, integrate everything, then if it works go and buy a Palm and put the HandDbase tables on the Palm.
Registering HandDbase costs about $20... Not as bad as &150 for the Palm.

        Anthony:
        I just purchased HanDbase.
        DDh Software
        P.O. Box 970971
        Boca Raton, Fl. 33497-0971
        (877) DDH-4608
        (561) 967-3668
        www.ddhsoftware,com
The printed manual, CD and shipping was $ 34.95
I was able to create a small application on the HanDbase Desktop version. Linked 3 files. Employee, Wage, Transactions table together. These are trimmed down Alpha 5 tables (my palm dosen't have much memory)
Created a small input form in HanDbase that does a lookup on employee name and craft. Allows the user to input hours.
I downloaded this application to the Palm and it runs using the Alpha5 trim down tables.

I haven't really worked with this but one programming option that I have followed for some time is CASL (Castle Software). Their web address is www.caslsoft.com. They have mostly focused on the Palm OS but I do know that they have a Windows CE beta version.

This may provide a cost effective ($64.95) way to build Windows/Palm and possibly Windows/CE applications that can be distributed. If you are interested you can download a fully functional trial version from their site.
