mpx files

Hi All,
When I look at my Alpha files in Windows Explorer I see a lot of Mpx files. Can I delete these to free up space? When are these created?

Delete at will. Temporary files created during the running of queries, directly or during the printing of a report, opening a browse, form, etc that triggers the query.

Checking the box on the far right tab of the settings dialog box will eliminate [b]most[b] .mpx files from accumulating.

Can I also delete .tmp and .muf files? Also I didn't see the option in the settings dialogue box you mentioned.

Notice the left right triangles in the upper right corner of the settings dialog, go to the right to the queries tab.

You can delete .tmp files. You should not delete the .muf unless you have to do so for the reason that it has become corrupted and will not let your users log on. (It's a long story - search the board for .muf)

Mary, If you create a new DOS batch file and lets say you call it mpxout.bat. Assuming you Alpha V files are stored in their defalt location you can use the following command in a that DOS batch file to get rid of the files:

erase "c:Program FilesA5v4*.mpx"

We use this on our EXIT PROGRAM button in out app. Every time the user shuts down the app all of the *.mpx files are erased. They can grow to great numbers if you don't delete them. Make sure you use the quotes, they allow DOS to use long file names.

Here is a Script file that I run on startup of the application. I put the line to play deletempx in the autoexec scrip of the application.
save this script as deletempx and the call the script to delete the mpx files.
