Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    form design probs

1.I've been working on a form, have made some variables and placed them, then removed & deleted them. For the past week I get the message "Field object references non-existent field" , and I can't get rid of it. I've looked and looked, and I know it's not on the form. help?

2.On the same form,I have placed a conditional object box with 5 conditions. the number of fields is different in some of them. I also placed a button object to control printing and advancing to the next record. Problem: I can't set the tab order to fill the required fields within each of the condition boxes... the cursor passes them by.
    Any help?

    RE: form design probs

    AL,

As far as your variables go, if you are sure they are not on the form, maybe hidden behind another object then try looking on the form menu under variables and see if they are listed there, if so delete them. Another thought is checking all of your scripts to make sure they are not calling for the variable.

As far as your tab order .. what happens when you try to set the tab order? can you set it in design mode? if they are set then look at your field rules.

One other thing I might mention is I had alot of strange things happen when I tried using buttons and fields on a conditional object. You might want to rethink your design and use a tabbed form instead. Hope this helps.

You've got some good suggestions Scott. I've also found forgotten references to variables in font and font color equations, and in the expressions for form level calculated fields.

Also see if you have deleted a field from the original table, or changed the spelling of a field name.
      There can be only one.

        Hi Scott-

your 1st Para: Tyey are not anywhere on the form, or in the V box, and i have no scripts.
But just changed a fildname (not this variable) in the re-structure box, and then deleted the old fieldname everywhere..and have the same problem as I do with the variable. It seems like these old fields are "stuck" somewhere... I'm ready to trash to form and rd-do it.

        2. This form is an invoice similar to the sample. I'm using a button for the same purpose... to print the form and move to next record. The condition boxes are to take care of different types of tender. I can set tab order throughout the form, for that cond. box. i think the problem is setting the tab order for the rest of the boxes... remember, they have different numbers of fields.
