Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Ship To

    How do i consruct a command to enter the same information in the "ship to" fields if they are the same as the "bill to" fields"?

    RE: Ship To

    This code moves the value in one field to another. It is attached to the onPress event of a button. It could be modified to process more fields.

    tbl=table.current()
    fld1=tbl.field_get("prodgrp")
    pg=fld1.value_get()
    fld2=tbl.field_get("fcatpg")
    tbl.change_begin()
    fld2.value_put(pg)
    tbl.change_end(.T.)
    There can be only one.

      Another thought that would avoid scripting:

      In the field rules for the table, make the SHIP TO fields default to the value of the BILL TO fields. This will fill in the fields right away, and still allow you to change them if necessary.

        Stan,
        I'm going to take exception to your script in order to point out form procedures as opposed to table procedures. If you have a form open, it may be open in change mode as well as enter mode. If you change an address on a form and then use table procedures, you will not get the currently changed values. This is because you are reading from a saved record instead of the record buffer.

        You can copy the field values from one field to another simply by coding:

        field 10.text = field1.text
        field1.refresh()

        You need nothing more.

        More importantly, this will yield the correct results whether you are in enter mode or change mode.

        Developers should consider whether they need form or table procedures before writing code.

          RE: Ship To

          Good point. My code is from a form where I merely wanted the user to be able to page through a table and fill in one field in the table with values from another field. No typos, no problems.

          I wasn't looking at the original question closely enough when I posted my answer.
          There can be only one.

              have been looking for in the manual - but couldn't find satifactory explanation

              why did you say field.text instead of field.value

              on a form, what is the difference between the field.text and the field.value and why would you use the one rather than the other

                Martin, for a text field I think they're the same.

                For date or numerics, the value property retains the 'type', while the text property displays the character string equivalent.

                  Tom, from reviewing info regarding lists, it talks about
                  making them different, even for text fields, like

                  if .....
                  field.text="Diners Club"
                  field.value="DC"

                  I will do a thorough experiment today, and post my results, regarding different types, etc.

                  I was also wondering if this was a hold over from the Dos version of Alpha, of which I have zero experience, since the manual speaks so little regarding the two.
