Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    push button on/off

    I have a form with baseball stats. There are several fields I would like to check or mark with the mouse. The value of the field when checked would be 1 therewise 0. How can I uncheck a field without having to "cancel changes". In oter words if I check the field BB (walk) but i didn't mean to how can i undo the check. I am trying this with a Radio Push button. Maybe someone could suggest a beterway.
    Thak you

    RE: push button on/off

    It would seem that you would get the behavior you desire from a logical field checkbox. Take a look at the documentation, I think logical false is equivalent to 0 and true to 1. You might be able to proceed this way.
    There can be only one.

      Bob, here's an idea

      Be sure the fields don't have tab stops, so you don't inadvertently reset their values

      also, this script presumes the field alreay has a value - if it doesn't where the else is put
      ********************
      elseif
      this.value=.f.
      this.font.bold=.f.
      this.font.color="black"
      else
      this.value=.f.
      this.font.bold=.f.
      this.font.color="black"
      **************************

      then at the onarrive event for the field you can say something like

      if this.value=.f.
      this.value=.t.
      this.font.bold=.t.
      this.font.color="dark red"
      else
      this.value=.f.
      this.font.bold=.f.
      this.font.color="black"
      end if
      this.refresh()

        whoops
        if the field is a text field and not a logical field
        try this
        if this.value="1"
        this.value="0"
        this.text="False"

        if this.value="1"
        this.value="0"
        this.text="True"

          Thank you both,
          I think Stan's suggestion is more my speed. The xbasic is a little too tough for me. Where did you guys learn all that stuff. I am just self taught by trial and error from A4v1.
          Where can I find a beginners book. Peter Wayne's assumes too much.
          Thanks again,
          Bob

            Bob,

            Peter Wayne's book does not relly assume that you know a lot about Alpha. It is written around version 3 and quite easy to follow for a beginner.

            I was a beginner last march, I bought the books, both books, and from there I designed a quite complex information system for my small company.

            Network with 7 station and working quite well. I dont pretend to be an expert yet, but the more I do and the more I read on this board , things get easier, I do not mean easy but less complicated for me.

            Buy the books, switch to version 4 (version 5 coming soon) and have fun.
