Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Show specific lines in an embedded browse.

I have a form based on a the inventory set with a transaction table linked to the inventory table using item number..

The transaction table contains PO numbers that refer to items in transit. Once the items are received, the quantity received is entered in the same transaction table and posted (added) to the quantity on hand field.

When pointing to a specific product, one can see in the embedded browse how many items are on order and their scheduled date, but when all items are received I would like to remove that specific row from the browse. without deleting.

I tried browse properties filter using "received on_order" to show only those records, but when I use the same browse on the form the filter does not work.

I played around with browse properties without luck. It is probably very simple to do but my A5 knowledge is too limited.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks

    JP

From reading your post it would seem you want

    "received on_hand" not "received on_order".

Or do I misunderstand your process?
    There can be only one.

      Or, possibly, 0n_order 0 ?

        Stan,

        Thanks for your quick reply.

What I want to do is when we receive the equipment we enter the quantity received, if it equals the quantity on order that means the whole order is completed and we do not need that in fo anymore. But we cannot delete the record because it contains some posting rules.

In other words, when the order is completed there is no use to show what is on order anymore.

        Thanks for your help

          Tom,Thanks

I need to use a "received" field to post my quantities to my inventory in order to increase the "on_hand" quantity by the number of items received.

I hope I make it clear.

          Thanks again for your reply

            Jean,

What if you added a logical field to the transaction table which
defaults to .f. when you place an order. When the order is "received"
the logical field is set to .t. Then filter the browse on the locical
            field = .f.

              Thanks Doug,

I will try when back to the office monday.
That may be a good way to get around it

I will keep you posted of the results

              Thanks again

I'm a real newbie but your notes don't mention the browse filter posibilities available in 'Form Properties'. You can get to that by entering design mode for the form, right click on an empty part of the form; and pick 'Properties' The Filter/Order tab has a utility to set filter expression and sort expressions on EITHER the Form Or its Imbedded browse. Just highlight the browse and set filter and order in the appropriate windows.

Surely if your filter expressions work on the browse table they'll work when set here.

I might be missing your point, but it seems that the filter examples you gave worked - just that they wouldn't transfer to the imbedded browse. I hope I didn't miss the point and that this information is NEW to you. Otherwise I'll again, look very foolish.

                  Thanks Ken,

You are right the form properties works within the browse but so not transfer to the embedded browse.

I must be doing something wrong but I will try something else when I have some time.

                  Thanks

                    Jean:

                    Control Panel....
Go to the 'tables' tab and highlight your set.

Right click and select 'Edit Set'

Highlight the browse link involved and right-click. This
will display a card called 'Link Properties' at the bottom
of that card is a window in which you can create the expression to apply the filter.

I would suggest 'receivedordered' if that doesn't get it invert it i.e. 'orderedreceived'. God only knows where Alpha starts processing a filter. I assume that these are numeric fields.

That information I gave on the 'Form Properties'-previous post- was WRONG and I apologize for that. Nothing like getting bad information when you need help. You see, I'm a newbie too. You know, the blind tryng to lead the blind. I haven't tested your situation but am working on it -I'll keep you posted. I'm getting what you're looking for in my own app. but filtering on a value in a character field. It works fine.

                      Thanks Ken,

I see that youare an early bird.

In the meantime I am using the color expression and turn the color to gray when "received=ordered". That way it is not too annoying but I will surely try what you suggest.

                      I will let you know

                      Thanks again

Just tried your method on a dummy set. It works like a charm.I never used the link properties, I did not know about it.

I have found that using the filter for a browse doesn't always work as expected. I have resorted to creating a query that filters out the unwanted records. I run the query with the OnInit event for the form with the embedded browse. The browse only displays the records that fits the filter. By specifying a query order that matches an existing index, the query runs very fast. This works everytime and does not require changing the set link. It also works if the form is opening a table and not a set.
