Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Ok, what I'm I missing Here?

    Thanks

    RE: preview_report(

    I haven't double checked the readme files, but I agree it doesn't work. Nor does putting it in a line to be evaluated as in:

    X=preview_report("AB IR-RC")

    no error and no preview.

    Maybe this is no longer supported?
    There can be only one.

      RE: preview_report(

      Nick,

      preview_form(formname) is an older version of Xbasic code. It requires an appropriate index/query and filter to be set in a range. If you use the button query to print the current record (and maybe all the records), you will get code generated that looks like this

      dim A_ASK_PRINT as c
      dim A_FORM_CURRENT as c

      range.flags = RANGE_INDEX .or. RANGE_FIRST .or. RANGE_LAST
      range.index_handle = index_record_get(db_current())
      range.filter = ""
      range_add(db_current(), recno(), recno())
      A_ASK_PRINT = ui_get_radio(this.text, 1, "Print", "Preview")
      if A_ASK_PRINT = "Print"
      goto print
      elseif A_ASK_PRINT = "Preview"
      goto preview
      else
      goto cleanup
      end if

      print:
      print_form(A_FORM_CURRENT)
      goto cleanup

      dim A_FORM_CURRENT as c

      preview:
      preview_form(A_FORM_CURRENT)
      goto cleanup

      cleanup:
      range_drop(db_current())
      end

      The code does work, and does have some very slight differences in what and how A5 does the printing versus the other method, but don't ask me what those are offhand.

        RE: preview_report(

        Ira and Stan Thanks, I'll still have a question as to way only the old function
        is listed in the explore and not the new one that is used by my button Genie.
        Created by my button genie. Good Genie, Genie,Genie,Genie.
        Example:
        print:
        current_record = alltrim(str(recno(),10,0))
        :Report.print("Osha Checklist","BETWEEN(RECNO(),"+ current_record+ "," + current_record+")")
        goto cleanup
        cleanup:
        end

        Thanks for the help

          RE: preview_report(

          Nick, If I open the Invoice Database that ships with Alpha Five, I find

          :Report.Preview(C Name [, C Filter [,C Order [,C WindowName] ]])

          in the Xbasic Explorer.

          Open Objects
          Then System
          Then Report
          Then Methods

          Is this what you were looking for?

            Tom thanks for the reply.
            I don't know whats going on with my version A5v4 b 230 but when I look at the xbasic explore from the code editor I don't have the same select as you. Maybe it's because I opened the code editor from design mode for a form i was editing.

            Thanks

              Nick, it's not in the Windows folder under Objects... it's in the System folder under Objects... and yes, I see when I view Xbasic Explorer while in design mode on a form...

                Tom Thanks, I found it. however if you open xbasic explorer and go to function then Xbasic you get a different list.
