Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Bordering

    Hi Guys,

While I am bordering on the verge of ignorance, I need to
    know about the following:

    1. How do I display the code involved from an operation, so that I can copy and add together the codes of several operations in a single script on a button.

    .. or..

    2. Is it possible to run more than one(1) operation on a
    single button.

As usual ... my kingdom for your responses,
    Ed

    RE: Bordering

Ed, If you are using action scripting all you need to do is right click on the action script and choose "convert to xbasic". Once you do, your code can now be copied and added to any other xbasic script you want. As far as running more than on command per button the answer is yes. Again if you are using action scripting just decide where you need the next action to go and right click on the action script just prior to and choose "insert command". If you have multiple action commands in one button push command you can convert all of them to xbasic and copy and paste into one script. The preceeding will not work with branch commands. For those you wil have to use "IF", or "SELECT", etc.

      RE: Bordering

      Ed,

First I'll answer question 2 because that's the easiest - yes.

Now, question #1 - There's more than one way to do it but here's what I do:
      (1) Go to the design mode for your operation. If it's an existing operation, open it in the design mode. If it's a new operation, you will be in the design mode when setting it up.
      (2) After the operation is completely set up but before you run it, click "View / Script Recorder Window" on the menu bar and make sure the "Recording" check box is marked.
      (3) Now, go back to the operation and run it.
      (4) Return to the Script Recorder Window and you will see the Xbasic commands. (Note: you will probably want to use low-level commands if you are going to put this in a script. It's not required but I find that most times I want to make some minor changes when putting these in scripts - at least enough to make the script completely portable.)
      (5) Click the "Copy" button to copy the whole script. You MUST use this button - it is not possible to cut and paste portions of these scripts.

(OK, now how much did you say your kingdom was worth?)
