Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Hi Charlie --

    That checkbox is a relatively new feature in A5 -- it only came about in a later build.

    You can put some stuff in your autoexec script or other startup scripting that deletes the mpx files. I think I cribbed this from someone else (Probably Peter or Finian) but I don't know for sure:

    ' -----------
    Path = :A5.Get_Exe_Path()

    filename=path+"$$*.*"

    result=file.exists(filename)

    if result=.F. then
    goto cleanup
    end if

    files = filefind.first(path+"$$*.*")

    WHILE .not. files.eof()
    index_name = files.name()
    file.remove(index_name)
    files.next()
    END WHILE

      RE: selwyn-problem with .mpx files

      Charlie:

      I encountered the same problem. Use the following script that executes when user exist your application:

      OPTION STRICT

      dim path as c

      path="C:Program Filesa5v4"

      if path = ""

      end

      end if

      dim dir as L

      dim result as L

      dim response as n

      dim files as p

      dim filename as c

      dim index_name as c

      files = filefind.first(path)

      dir=files.is_directory()

      if dir =.F.

      'ui_msg_box("Invalid Directory Path", "Entered. Please try again.")

      end

      end if

      filename=path+"$$*.*"

      result=file.exists(filename)

      if result=.F. then

      end

      end if

      files = filefind.first(path+"$$*.*")

      WHILE .not. files.eof()

      index_name = files.name()

      file.remove(index_name)

      files.next()

      END WHILE

      end

      By executing this script when exiting the app, the mpx files are always deleted. (This script was adapted from one by Finnian Lennon).

      Hope it helps

        Interesting, Steve. I didn't know that File.exists() would work with wild cards. I just checked it out and it works!

        There is one minor error in your script. (I'm guessing you missed it doing a "cut and paste".) There is no "Cleanup:" label. As the script is shown, that IF statement could just be:

        IF result=.F.
        END
        END IF

          RE: selwyn-problem with .mpx files

          to achieve this with xbasic is too complicated for me.

          i revert to good old dos batch file "delmpx.bat" with icon on my desktop which click once a week & it does the job.

          del c:a5v4*.mpx
          del c:a5v4a5data*.mpx

          i wonder if add the bat file to windows startup - will that work.
          have not tried it.

            Vasant,

            Yes, that should work, too.

            PS If you want to type in path names use the
            ampersandnumbersign92semicolon in place of the backslash.
            You only need type it once and then cut ane paste each occurrence.

            c:\program files\A5v4\filename

            Now I'll try to make the "code" appear.

            Code:
            c:\program files\A5v4\filename
            Here's hoping.
