Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Error printing a form

I have a form with a tabbed subform that will not print.
When I try to print I get the error message

    "Error occurred parsing break expression
    in group detail"
    "NO such table"
    "RECNO("A_CASE")"

Does this mean forms with tabbed subforms cannot be printed or do I have to chage something.

I don't need the printed form just curios.

    Thanks

    Lloyd,

I've not tried printing a form but evidently, you have an expression on one of your fields. As best I can figure, when printing a form, the expression is run and it's not finding the table which you've named in the expresion. Either you've misspelled the table name or the table name refers to the wrong table.

What the expression has to do with printing the form, I don't know. I thought it was basically doing a screen print. However, it must print similar to a report where all expressions are evaluated at print time.

I'm about 90% sure that the error msge refers to an incorrect table name.

    Hope this helps,

The table A_CASE must be generated by A5 it is not a table that I created.

        Lloyd,

A5 can print a Tabbed table, but when you are telling it print, it thinks is's focus is on the control Panel (or similar). That's what A_CASE is effectively saying.

Try printing the form from a button on the form itself and see if it fixes the problem.

Nevertheless, A5 does not really handle Tabbed forms in the current version and you may be dissapointed in the results. It displays only one tab and not necessarily the tab that is currently selected. It is definitely not WYSIWYG.

I have asked for this to be corrected in the next version, but I don't know if it has.

          RE: Error printing a form

I got the same error message, but I was trying to print a letter that I created in Alpha5v4 for a data set that had been imported from Alpha4v2. My exact message was "Error occurred parsing break expression in group Adressee
          no such table
          RECNO ("_1LEGAL)
I do have a table 01Legal, but it was created in Alpha5v4 and is not the table I was using the letter with.
          Can you help?

Mary, you might have bad data in the the Adressee field. Values may be missing that are needed for your group break expression. If I were you the first thing I'd check would be to browse all records using the default browse, looking for irregularities in the values appearing in the Adressee field.
