Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

GET A LIST OF INSTALLED FONTS?

Has anyone been able to get the name of all the fonts installed in your system? I have tried reading the fonts folders and reading everyline within the individual font files and cannot find the Font Name. Any help would be greatly appreciated Jack

    Jack -

While I'm sure someone has a way like DOS piping the font folder files to a text file and then printing the file...you might checkout www.nonags.com; browse freeware and look at font tools. There are several font utilities that will do the job.

      addendum -

Noticed that you can print a file list of any directory from PowerDesk if you happen to use it. If not, stop by ontrack.com for a freebie with a tolerable nag.

        Hi Jack,

If you happen to have a graphics program installed check whether it includes a font management utility. For example, Corel Draw comes with Bitstream Font Manager, a small wonder of a tool.

I used to use a product called Font Manager. It's similar to the Bitstream product called FontNav. The really cool thing about Font Manager was that if you didn't have a font loaded that was required by a file, when you opened the file the Font Manager would automatically load the font. When you closed the file, the font would be dropped from the active fonts. Worked seamlessly and without any delay. However, between the problems of non-standard video cards/drivers and MS constant changes to the font management area of Windows, the Font Manager people I think eventually gave up the ghost. I had to stop using it because of a video driver conflict and then got comfortable with FontNav.

I am looking for a universal componet in windows that can pipe the fonts to a text file or the like. The concept is that everyone who has windows will be able to use this method. Not a second party program. Jack

What OS are you using? Windows 98 keeps the list in the registry at [HKLM||SOFTWARE||Microsoft||Windows||CurrentVersion||Fonts]

RE: GET A LIST OF INSTALLED FONTS?

i don't think it can be done in a5v4.

in a5v5 there will be a command called a5.font_enum() which returns a cr-lf delimited list.

here is a snipett of code i tested in the interactive window to populate an array with the fonts in the system. this uses a new v5 method for arrays called .initialize() that initializes an array from a crlf string:

                  fontlist = a5.Font_Enum()
                  dim fontarray[1000] as c
                  fontarray.initialize(fontlist)

                  ?fontlist
                  = Roman
                  Script
                  Modern
                  Marlett
                  Arial
                  Arial CE
                  Arial CYR
                  Arial Greek
                  Arial TUR
                  Arial Baltic
                  Courier New
                  Courier New CE
                  Courier New CYR
                  Courier New Greek
