Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Wanda,

You have the nicest dangling participle I've seen in a long time.

It doesn't drive me nuts. I'm usually driving everyone else nuts by pointing out proper grammar, particularly my kids and husband. Who was it, I wonder, who first ended a question with the word "at"? That, and double negatives are my pet peeves.

Enough said. I very much appreciate proper grammar, so I thank you for your input.

I've used Alpha since 1983 or '84. Unfortunately, out of that many years I was not able to use Alpha on the job for a total of about 3years. I've looked at various other programs along the way, but always stay with Alpha. Yes, Alpha really has come a long way.

I lived in Cicero for the summer of '74 or '75 with my friend, Mark Sharnowski. Do you happen to know him? I've lost touch. Now I'm northern California...Ukiah, that is.

I think a conference would be great, too...wonder if we could talk Selwyn into organizing it for us. Maybe we could start with a survey on this forum.

You're wrong about the Miss Alpha thing, though...there are too many Miss Everythings, don'tcha' think? What we need is a Mr. Alpha. We'd let you "guys" judge, I suppose, too.

Nope. I agree. All we need is spell checkars.

If you're hand writing or printing, that is correct. However, with the advent of word processors, the single space is not enough to delineate the end of one sentence and the beginning of the next, especially if you use full justification. So, for clarity, the double space is OK

Alpha being the first letter of the Greek alphabet....

How about the contest winner being:

Oh Ken - It's not so bad! I grew up in Lindsborg, Kansas ("Little Sweden U.S.A." and was weaned on coffee and lutefisk. Sometimes it was the only "spice " in our meatball and boiled potato world!

I now live in Burr Oak, Kansas - miles and miles from anywhere. I'd be shocked if there was another user within 200 miles. Can't talk long because we're currently in the middle of wheat harvest.

By the way, my pet peeve (spelling) is confusion over plurals/possessives and plurals/contractions - - was everyone gone the day we learned about " 's " in school?

                                Becky,

Oh, so you're one of them, eh? I don't know what's worse, the smell or the taste. Yah, I did taste it once but it ranks with the taste of coffee. Coffee breath is as bad as the smell of lutefisk. My wife tries to tell me that if I eat lutefisk, my hair would grow. I ask, "What for? I'd have to comb and cut it. Now why would I want that extra burden?" Bet you're wondering what kind of a Swede I am when I can't stand either one? But I do drink Mountain Dew. One can a day most days, two cans a day once in awhile.

Only spice in Meatballs and potatos? Now that's what I call scraping the bottom of the barrel. (Oh, I do remember tohse days when you turned the barrel upside down and hit the bottom to get a few extra morsels) I'd go without the lutespice.

                                Love those Swedish meatballs.
