Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Hanover, Ontario, Canada (2.5 hrs north of Detroit border crossing)30 minutes east of Lake Huron (sort of in a line with the Traverse City area of Northern Michigan-similar weather anyway)
I've used Alpha since the very first issue. I found reference to it in a Popular Science magazine in 1987 or 88...
What's that phrase " You've come a long way Babe" and in this case Babe is the Alpha organization :) :)

RE: Where are we all from????

      I love it!!!!!

Many things are now "considered acceptable", most likely because we've given up on persuading the "unwashed" to tread the straight and narrow. How many time did someone (mother ?) tell you, "If everyone else is doing it would you jump off a cliff?". Illegitmi non carborundum. Stick to your principles.

Yes, "the rules of English were intended to make communications faster and better." Only if we all communicate under a common set of rules can we be sure we all mean the same thing.

I enjoyed and appreciated your comment about the "double spaces" at the end of a sentence and will try to emulate your procedure. It seems to me that this could be built into fonts. Like kerning, shouldn't a word processor notice the period at the end of a sentence and "over-kern" the next space to improve readability?

      Thought for the day:

What's the longest word in the English language with only one vowel?
      There can be only one.

RE: Where are we all from????

I've heard that explanation before but my impression is that it is even more important with proportional fonts because the spaces are smaller with proportional fonts. For example, I believe the sentence separation in the second line is obvious before you even read the sentence:

Send copies to Mr. Smith and Mr. Jones. I need them sent by 2:00.

Send copies to Mr. Smith and Mr. Jones. I need them sent by 2:00.

(I think the following will come out in Courier but I'm not sure.)
                  [code]
Send copies to Mr. Smith and Mr. Jones. I need them sent by 2:00.

Send copies to Mr. Smith and Mr. Jones. I need them sent by 2:00.

(OK, I'll quit now. No more comments. I know my concern for proper english drives most people nuts!)

                      Correct!

Technically one could add an "s" and make it one character longer. Isn't the plural of a word a different word?

                                OK Stan the Man!

Ask your mother why everyone, including women, call other women "guys". Every time we go to a restaurant or even on TV, they gall each other "guys", even if there isn't a guy in the bunch. i.e. How you guys doing? When my wife says, "I'm not a guy", they're left speechless.

One other question to ask, Whatever happened to the word, "me"? i.e., He gave the car to myself. Now that does make me cringe a bit.

And then there's the word "often", which many folks pronounce, off-ten, sounding the "t".

I'm not an English major but had a good English teacher.

Now living in Walker, MN, land of Loons, lakes, forests and pesky tourists who come here for the mosquitos. They think the mosquitos work for the Red Cross.
