Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Open record from browse INTO a Form ..

I know it's been answered a number of times. Perhaphs i'm dense. This seems like an EXTREMELY straight forward task, a function i'm sure most dbases require.

I want to double click on a record in a browse and open that SAME record in a selected form.....

ALL of the fields in the browse are in the form. Still it opens the first record that is displayed in the browse.

What is the problem? Where can i define

"OPEN THIS RECORD INTO THIS FORM"

To further complicate things i would like to have ONLY ONE copy of the form open.. It seems like the dbclick function wants to insist on multiple opens...

I've got the book, i've read the message board through and through. I appreciate any and all help.

If I open a browse, move to record, hit the key, I can toggle back and forth between companion browse and companion form ---- with the current browse record as the current form record. I this the behavior you want to see?

If so, I would edit the onrowdoubleclick event to sys_send_keys("{f8}")

How does the user get back to the browse if so desired? You could put a button the form with the same action.
    There can be only one.

RE: Open record from browse INTO a Form ..

Well my browse is an embedded browse within a form which i need because i require other buttons and information to be displayed on the browse. I think this disqualifies having said form with embedded browse be the companion browse for the original form. It would make sense to add button and script functionality to a browse and still keep it a browse. But for now for what i want i need to use a form with embedded browse.

I think things are more complicated for me.. (ie: script errors etc) for the following reason..

In Form Explorer i have a heading called Parent form under which is one item called Tape Screen.

There is another heading called Forms under which reside four forms.. The correct number. One of which is Tape Screen. Whenever i try to include commands outside of parent form i get errors.. Something seems wrong but i have no idea what it is. Things just seem way more complicated than it should be.

      I am thoroughly confused..

If you want to zip up a stripped down version along with a text file describing in detail how you want this to operate, several will give it a shot, almost guaranteed.

          Rich,
The following xbasic code is what I used to open record from a browse into a form. This takes the invoice number in the browse then opens the form and finds that invoice number. You can attach this to a button or attach it to ondblclick on the browse

          Daryl

          dim global invno as c
          invno=browse1:invoiceno.value
          form.view("newformname")
          :newformname.index_set("invoiceno")
          :newformname.find(invno)

Another real quick way is to use a tabbed subform. Place the browse on one tab and the form on another tab. Choose the record in the browse and then change to the form and the record you selected will be displayed.
