Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Report Calc error Question

    I have a newly created Report that has several Calculated field. The Calc is asking for 50 percent of a field value. For example, Payment*.50 -- 25.00 is reporting 12.00, 99.00 is reporting 49.00. Every occurance that would be a fraction is rounding down. It is only occuring in this report.
    I have checked all my setting and everything appears correct. Is there something in Report properties that I have done that is causing this? My other reports work fine.
    thanks,
    Nello

    RE: Report Calc error Question

    I just noticed that the Calculations that are rounding down are in and "if" function. I have the Calc field set to 7 with 2 decimals.
    So it seems to come down to this, if I am correct.
    I need to increase the number of decimal positions inside the function. How do I do this.
    Thanks again
    Nello

      Please post your calculation expression. Maybe something in there will help someone figure out what's going on.

        Nello,

        This might seem very elmentary, but did you try increasing the dccimal positions on the fields properties? It seems to me that a calculation will cary the decimals to however many is possible but only show the number of decimals as indicated in the field's properties. I don't think you need to indicate the # of decimals in the formula but then I'm not an expert.

        Hope this helps.

          Good thought Ken, but he says that the result evaluates to two decimals. I could understand it 99.00 evaluated to 49, but not 49.00.

            Here it is;
            if(Supbill->Therp1=2,Supbill->Ty_Pay*.50,0).OR.if(Supbill->Therp2=2,Supbill->Ty_Pay*.50,0)

            Yes, I have checked all the property places and decimal settings.

            If I use the Supbill->Ty_Pay*.50 outside the IF statement it calcs correctly.

              RE: Report Calc error Question

              Do you mean if you alter the calculated field that is doing the rounding to eliminate the if statements, it calculates correctly?

              Or, do you mean that you have set up a second field without the if statements that calculates correctly?

                Yes, a new field without he if statement calc correctly.

                I think I tried editing the IF statement with the same result, but I will try again to see what occurs.

                  RE: Report Calc error Question

                  Further fooling around shows that either half of the statement calcs correctly without the .OR. With the .OR. it rounds down.

                  So now How do I rewrite to the statement to get the same result?

                    RE: Report Calc error Question

                    I can't see anything wrong here unless the .50 causes a problem.

                    Have you tried

                    if(Supbill->Therp1=2,(Supbill->Ty_Pay)/2,0).OR.if(Supbill->Therp2=2,(Supbill->Ty_Pay)/2,0)

                    and/or

                    if(Supbill->Therp1=2.OR.Supbill->Therp2=2,Supbill->Ty_Pay*.50,0)

                    or

                    if(Supbill->Therp1=2.OR.Supbill->Therp2=2,Supbill->Ty_Pay/2,0)

                    They all should be equivalent. Who knows.
                    There can be only one.

                      RE: Report Calc error Question

                      You could try it a couple of different ways.

                      if(condition1,field*.5,if(condition2,field*.5,0))

                      or

                      if(condition1 .or. condition2,field*.5,0)

                      I think the syntax is correct on those. Substitute your conditions and field names and see what happens.

                        This one works:
                        if(Supbill->Therp1=2.OR.Supbill->Therp2=2,Supbill->Ty_Pay*.50,0)
                        Nello

                          RE: Report Calc error Question

                          The .OR. should be incorporated into the expression portion of the if statement. A rewrite of that statement that could work is:

                          if(Supbill->Therp1=2, Supbill->Ty_Pay* .50, if(Supbill->Therp2=2, Supbill->Ty_Pay* .50, 0))

                          One could also use:

                          if(Supbill->Therp1=2 .OR. Supbill->Therp2=2, Supbill->Ty_Pay*.50, 0)
