Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    filter syntax

    problems with syntax

    this script was borrowed from dr. wayne and works well
    it copies line items from "sales order" to an invoice
    the order lines have 2 field "ordered" & "shipped"
    when the invoice is entered the "shipped" on the invoice line items is
    posted the shipped field on the order line item
    (by orderno & line no)

    some invoices do not have all the items shipped
    when the next inv is prepared for the same order,
    it should filter out those order lines that ordered shipped
    and not copy them to the inv line

    the index filter that i had works as far as filtering those items to
    be copied, but plays havoc on the inv totals because the filter is still
    active??

    i did not show the whole script because the rest creates the blob and
    copies the line items
    this all works, no problem and my deepest thanks to dr wayne for showing
    the way
    i just want to filter the order items to be copied
    again, researched the board, which is great, pick up so much,
    but could not find anything close to adopt

    appreciate all help in the past and future

    dim filter as c 'do i need this
    dim hdr as p
    dim items as p
    dim ol as p
    dim soh as p
    dim old_parent as b
    dim count_items as n
    dim i as n
    hdr=table.current(1) ' this is the inv hdr
    items=table.current(2) 'this is the order items to be copied
    ol=table.current(3) 'this is the inv items
    items.filter="quantityshipped" 'trying to filter items to be copied
    items.order=""' ?
    items.query()' ?
    'items.index_primary_put("qs") 'this sets the index/filter for the items copied
    'but creates problems w/inv totals
    count_items = count(Sol3->Order_No,GRP->INVHDR3)
    'the rest of the script creates the blob and copies the items

    RE: filter syntax

    John,
    I'm confused by your message. Is the filter not working? *or* Is the order of the resulting queried records incorrect?

        RE: filter syntax

        John, if you're trying to run a query against Items, these are the lines which I think are misleading:

        items.filter="quantityshipped" 'trying to filter items to be copied
        items.order=""' ?
        items.query()' ?
        'items.index_primary_put("qs") 'this sets the index/filter for the items copied
        'but creates problems w/inv totals
        count_items = count(Sol3->Order_No,GRP->INVHDR3)

        I'd change them to explicitly create a query, as follows:

        query.filter = "quantity shipped" 'set filter for the query
        query.order = "" 'leave order alone
        itemsindx = items.query_create() 'create the query list
        count_items = itemsindx.records_get() 'get count of items in list
        ui_msg_box("Number of items selected",ltrim(str(count_items))) 'display count for
        'testing purposes

          count_items = itemsindx.records_get() 'get count of items in list
          tom, won't this create a query for all items in the table that qs ??

          count_items = count(Sol3->Order_No,GRP->INVHDR3)
          this selects only those items for that orderno that matches the order no
          on the inv hdr
          i would like to further select only those items quantityshipped
          before they are copied to the inv lines

          my defination of a query filter is applied to a table/set
          a query in this case, has the items selected by order # already
          and then want to filter those items further

          am i totally off base on this???
          i can post the entire script if that will help

          i think the good think about this problem i am
          having, is that i think i know covered all situations for query filters
          syntax forms, reports. and now activities from a button

            whoa, just a thought, in responding to your response
            wouln't the "filter" go in this line

            count_items = count(Sol3->Order_No,GRP->INVHDR3)
            then sol3->quantitysol3->shipped ?

            count_items = count(Sol3->Order_No,GRP->INVHDR3,sol3->quantitysol3->shipped)

            does that look right?????

              RE: filter syntax

              John, I was responding to your message indicating that the "filter" would not work.

              I see now that you are riding a fast horse already out the gate, and I'm trying to jump in the saddle with you. No can do with incomplete code, lack of detail on the structure of the tables and your set.

              If you want to zip everything up and email it to me I'll take a look at it over the weekend.

              In the meantime, if you want to play with it further, try refining the filter expression in the query to include the desired order number. That way when you run the query against the *ITEMS* table you will return only the ones where Ordered shipped *AND* where the ordernumber field in that table matches the current one in the header table.

                RE: filter syntax

                Your syntax is all wrong. It should not be
                items.filter=""
                etc but

                query.filter=something
                query.order=something
                query.options=something
                items.query_create()
