LIMIT ACCESS TO DATA

We have a 5 computers running the multi user version. We want to let 2 of them look at the limited data but not be able to change anything. How can we do this w/o shutting out everbody on the network as others will be entering data at the same time?
Any suggestions are much appreciated. RW

There are a couple of differnt ways of doing this. The way that I do it in our Purchasing database is as follows.

I have a login screen which asks for the users Employee ID and password. This then sets up different global variables that I use in other parts of the application.

One that I use is Purchaser Number (global var->pur_no). If the user has a Purchaser Number (from Employee database) then they have full control over the Purchasing Database. If the user does not, then they can only view the Purchasing database but cannot enter or change Purchase Orders.

In the Purchasing Form setup under Actions, for OnSave and OnFetch I have:

I created a Toolbar for this form which has a Change button
located at the 8th place. The change button is as follows:

Enter New Record

Change Record
:Purchase_Entry.ToolbarControlEnable(11, .f.)
Print Record (Don't want them to print if not a
purchaser

Depending upon how selective you want to be in allowing the read access, you may be able to accomplish this with just the network access security to the directory with the data. Set them up with read only access while the other users have read, write, change, and delete access.
