Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    WHAT'S WRONG WITH THESE FILTER ?

    F=PARENTFORM.THIS
    ITEMS=F:TABLES:CARRIER_RATE.THIS
    ITEMS.FILTER_EXPRESSION="(SOURCE_CODE1=ALLTRIM(VAR-"SOURCE_ZONE).AND.DESTINATION_CODE1=ALLTRIM(VAR-"DEST_ZONE).AND. (VAR-"SHIPMENT_AIR_WEIGHT"LOW .AND. VAR-"SHIPMENT_AIR_WEIGHT"HIGH.and. how='air')) .OR. (SOURCE_CODE1=ALLTRIM(VAR-"SOURCE_ZONE).AND.DESTINATION_CODE1=ALLTRIM(VAR-"DEST_ZONE).AND. (VAR-"SHIPMENT_GND_WEIGHT"LOW .AND. VAR-"SHIPMENT_GND_WEIGHT"HIGH.and. how='GND')) "
    ITEMS.QUERY()
    F.RESYNCH()

    I WISH TO DISPLAY ALL SHIPMENT IN BOTH "AIR" AND "GROUND"
    THAT FALL INTO THE RANGE OF WEIGHT...

    IE: FROM 0 TO 10 LBS BY AIR = $ 8888
    FROM 10 TO 30 LBS BY AIR = $ 9999

    FROM 1 TO 10 LBS BY GND = $ 43
    FROM 10 TO 20 LBS BY GND = $ 55

    I GET AN "ERROR 20"

    YOUR ASSISTANCE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED

    THANKS

    RE: WHAT'S WRONG WITH THESE FILTER ?

    Ken,

    I don't see anything wrong with the filter, but glancing at it on the message board isn't a careful way to debug something as complex as you describe.

    First thought here is that the query is failing cause it can't see the variables. Check their scope.

    When I debug something like this I start small.

    Build a script that queries for a single criteria. Test it. Get it running. Add the next criteria. Test it. Get it running. Repeat the cycle until all are in place.

    good luck.

      Yes Tom,

      this portino for sure work...
      And I added .or. to show rate="ground"
      and that is where the error "20" come in

      ITEMS.FILTER_EXPRESSION="(SOURCE_CODE1=ALLTRIM(VAR-"SOURCE_ZONE).AND.DESTINATION_CODE1=ALLTRIM(VAR-"DEST_ZONE).AND. (VAR-"SHIPMENT_AIR_WEIGHT"LOW .AND. VAR-"SHIPMENT_AIR_WEIGHT"HIGH.and. how='air'))

      SHOULD I be using "in between" instead ?

        RE: WHAT'S WRONG WITH THESE FILTER ?

        Sorry,

        My best advice to you is to do it differently than you are attempting.

        Test one criteria, build the query, run it, verify it works, then add the next. Do it in small steps. Avoid the temptation to add entire strings of multiple expressions in one step as you seem to be doing.

          with a final " mark missing from your post, is a valid filter string construction, given that the variable and table-"field names are correct.

          You say you added " .or. to show rate="ground" but you don't say where you added it. You would actually be adding something like rate='ground' - single quotes within the beginning and ending double quotes.
          There can be only one.

            thank Stan,
            If you look at the beginning of my message.

            There is .or. in it.

            Basically 2 seperate filter...

            One look ofr Ground, the other look for "air" rate(s)
            with range of "weight" given.

            For sure a single run work fine... But would be nice to show both ground and air rates on the same browse at the same time.

            Thanks

              "Basically 2 seperate filter... "

              If the first half works and the second half works, connecting the halves with .or. will work\.

              You could tidy up things a bit with

              "(SOURCE_CODE1=ALLTRIM(VAR-"SOURCE_ZONE).AND.DESTINATION_CODE1=ALLTRIM(VAR-"DEST_ZONE).AND. between(VAR-"SHIPMENT_AIR_WEIGHT,LOW,HIGH).and. how='air')) .OR. (SOURCE_CODE1=ALLTRIM(VAR-"SOURCE_ZONE).AND.DESTINATION_CODE1=ALLTRIM(VAR-"DEST_ZONE).AND. between(VAR-"SHIPMENT_GND_WEIGHT,LOW,HIGH).and. how='GND'))"
              There can be only one.

                Stan,

                Still same error "20"

                I will do a manual test without the variable value.
                or try to do...

                in between "lo" & "High"

                  Can you create a duplicate of your table and remove most of the records. Then zip that .dbf and its suport files up and attach the zip here? It may be possible to spot something when working "live" that we're not seeing just "talking through" the problem.

                    I was able to create somehing similar to your code for one of my forms and used

                    f= parentform.this
                    items = f:Tables:ops.this
                    ITEMS.FILTER_EXPRESSION="(between(sn,'001','005').and.(rsf"20000)) .or. between(sn,'015','030')"
                    ITEMS.QUERY()
                    F.RESYNCH()

                    for the code on a button with no errors.
