Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Query embedded browse??

    Is it possible to have a button that finds a record conditionally in a browse that is embedded in a form by using an OnKey event on the form itself?

    The form has the clients details while the browse that is embedded has the stock the client has had. I want to be able to enter the stock number and have the correct client be brought up with the focus on the stock item in the browse or at least have it bring up the correct client.

    These items are rentals that need to be marked back into stock.

    At present we have a second form for returning items but it would be mmuch easier if it was all contained on the one form.

    As usual, thanks in advance.

    RE: Query embedded browse??

    I am using a form with an enbedded browse and I can locate
    a vendor by using the attached script on a button

    tbl=table.current()
    find_name=ui_get_text("Search for Vendor","Enter Vendor Name (or first 2-3 letters):")
    indx=tbl.index_primary_put("VendID")
    tbl.fetch_find(find_name)
    parent.resynch()

    Note: "Enter Vendor Name...." on same line, not as shown
    above

      RE: Query embedded browse??

      It appears you are working with a set. While the solution form the other Jerry works if the browse contains parent records, it doesn't work if the browse contains child records in a set. This has been discussed many times and the only solution that seems to work is to open another instance of the child table and then run a query on the child table. This can find a specific child record. From that record, you can get the link value and find the corresponding parent record. Then you can use a find with this value to find the parent.

      I have a couple databases that use a dialog form based on the child table that opens when a user wants a search on the set. This uses query by form to find a specific child record. The user can select any child value. The code then extracts a value from the linking field to identify the parent. I run a find to get the parent.

      Another method is a reverse set. Then you can find any child and the parent is linked. This may work in some cases, but if you need to go back to the original set design to view data, this is ok for the search, but not for the display. You still need to open the original set and find that parent record.
