Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Hard for me to believe

    Hi Phorum,

    In detail, properties, expression for a report I have the following expression:

    Var->Askc_Enter_The_Suppliers_Name=Sup_Nam.and.dtoc(Var->Askd_Enter_The_StarTing_Date)Askd_Enter_The_Ending_Date)>=dtoc(po_date)

    It is supposed to print or preview all POs within and including the range of dates if the ask vars for sup_nam entered in another ask var. It singles out the right sup_nam, the right month (or months), the right days of the week, but will include any year posted in the table.

    I even added: cmonth(po_date)=dtoc(var->askd_Enter_the_The_Ending_Date).
    Which gave the sam results.

    Any clues?

    I'll be grateful as always for a solution,
    efs

    BTW, I also used the between function with the same results.

    Me again,

    This does the same thing:

    sup_nam=askc_enter_the_suppliers_name.and.Between(dtoc(po_date),dtoc( Askd_Enter_The_StarTing_Date),dtoc(askd_enter_the_ending_date))

      Ed, in this case (Using the Between() function) I vaguely recall that the alphabetic ordering of the variable names is important. I know it sounds crazy but try changing the name of the start date variable to use a name that comes before the name of the end date variable in alpha order. i.e. call it "Askd_Enter_The_Beginning_Date".

        Hi Tom,

        Thanks for responding. I'll give it a shot, nothing else is working. I guess beginning date as opposed to start date might do it. I'll post the results.
        Thanks again,
        Ed

          RE: Hard for me to believe

          Hi Tom,

          I changed the ask variable from starting date to beginning as well as changing the order that they appeared in report var.
          Unfortunately it does the exact same thing, it almost appears as though the year part of "po_date" is not entered. As I had stated earlier I also tried a "CMONTH" function at the end of the expression to no avail.

          My next effort will be to try an ask var using "CMONTH" in addition to the ask vars. I'll post the results.

          Appreciate your interest,
          Ed

            Hi Tom,

            I added .and.Var->Askc_Enter_The_Year=cmonth(po_date) to the end of the existing expression after adding the ask var, it says there are no pages in the layout. Go figure!

              Try parenthesizing as follows:

              Var->Askc_Enter_The_Suppliers_Name=Sup_Nam.and. (dtoc(Var->Askd_Enter_The_StarTing_Date)Askd_Enter_The_Ending_Date)>=dtoc(po_date))

              Also, shouldn't he expression be:

              dtoc(po_date)>=dtoc(Var->Askd_Enter_The_StarTing_Date) .and. dtoc(po_date)Askd_Enter_The_StarTing_Date)

                Hi Gedi,

                Thank you for replying, I'll give it a shot .... nothing else works.

                Thanks again,

                  ".and.Var->Askc_Enter_The_Year=cmonth(po_date)"

                  Why would you expect there to be any records where the "Year" was equal to the month name of the po_date?
                  There can be only one.

                    Hi Gedi,
                    It produces the same results, it just ignores the year.
                    Thanks again for your interest,

                      Hi Stan,

                      Oops .... I had a minor stroke, big error, but without the cmonth function added it still ignores the year in "po_date".
                      Back to the drawing board.
                      Thanks Stan,

                        WOW! What a life saver, I changed "cmonth" ( haven't the faintest idea why I used it) to cyear and it works perfectly.
                        Many thanks again ( what in the "H" was I thinking?

                          Ed, this works, too.

                          Code:
                          sup_nam=askc_enter_the_suppliers_name .and. Between(po_date, Askd_Enter_Beginning_Date, askd_enter_ending_date)

                            Hi Tom,

                            I thought I tried that the first time, however I'll try it again, it IS simpler and therefor less chance of corrupting.
                            Thanks Tom,
