Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    OnRowChange or OnRowDblClick

The manual says that I can access this event. I have placed a browse object on a form and even made it read only. But under actions options, these events are not made available. How can I access them to write scripts to these actions?

    Open form in design mode.

Select browse object by right clicking on it.

    Choose Actions.

Thanks, Tom. I followed your procedure and the only actions to which the code editor allows me access are...
      CANARRIVE
      CANDEPART
      ONARRIVE
      ONDEPART

      Any thoughts?

        Victor,

Sorry, I cannot duplicate what you're reporting. Either you're using terms differently than me in your messsages or you're using a different version of the program. I suppose it's also possible your form is corrupted.

If you care to pursue it further, zip your database and post it here. Tell us which form to open in order to see the browse object that's giving you trouble.

          Tom,

          I am using Alpha5 v4.5 build 263.

Let me ask you this. Having a browse object placed on a form that has tabs...will that make any difference?

Some events were not available in early builds. Build 263 was the original build for v4.5. I do know that the events in question were not available prior to V4.5. I can't determine when the events you want were added, but you should update to build 266. You can get that from the support area on the Alpha site.

Attached is a screenshot from A5V4.5 showing the available actions in the code window for a browse. You are getting something different?

                Jerry,

That sounds like that could be my problem. Your screenshot does show events that I DO NOT have available to me. I will pursue getting build 266.

                  Jerry,

I downloaded the upgrade to build 266, then followed with the installment of that upgrade. I then proceeded to access the event actions for a browse placed on a form. Still didn't show the row events.

After trying a couple of scenarios...here is what I have found. I have always put a "linked browse" on a form. These row events are NOT available for "linked browses". I tried placing an "embedded" browse on a form...YES...there were the event actions I am looking for.

Guess I will have to do a little more reading about the difference between the two.

                  Thanks!

I never use linked browses since they are not visible in form design and as you have found, have fewer options. I think both Tom and I were not thinking "out of the box" and didn't consider that you might be using a linked browse. I much prefer the embedded browse.

                        Jerry,

I try hard to think 'outside the box' but the rut I'm in is so deep I can't see over the top edge!
