Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re-evaluate field rules

    Hi Phorum,

I am developing an app that shows the winners in a golf skin game. The app has a host of table level calc (N) fields. Three(3) of them are involved in my problem. The first field adds the adjusted values of the first 9 holes, the second adds the adjusted values of the last 9 holes. The third adds these 2 calc fields for the adjusted 18 hole score. The first 2 holes (calc fields)work ok. The last which adds them together displays a peculiar value until I go into field rules and re-evaluate. Am I doing something wrong, or do I need to put some code to make them re-evaluate? I am definitely saving the input data (F9) before displaying the browse to read the results.

Thanks you for any and all input,
    efs

Don't know why, but try changing your third field to add all 18 together instead of the two parts.
    There can be only one.

      RE: Re-evaluate field rules

      Ed,

      Sounds like you're building a

      Calc (18 hole adjusted score)

      on a

Calc (pair of 9 hole adjusted scores)

      on a

Calc (sum of 9 adjusted scores)

      on a

Calc (raw score per hole, adjusted for handicap)

You might get better results if your structure includes

18 fields with the per hole adjustments preloaded (this would be the handicap per hole)

21 fields for the raw scores, nine hole subtotals, 18 hole grand total

21 fields for the adjusted scores

        RE: Re-evaluate field rules

Thanks for the input guys. My table includes 18 fields for the gross score on each hole, 3 more calc fields to total front 9 gross total, back 9 gross total and these totals added together for the 18 gross total. Next there are 18 fields that show where the HCP strokes fall (this would be different for each course), there is also 1 field that holds the players handicap. Next there are 18 calc fields that adjust the net on each hole as a function of the HCP and on which holes the strokes fall. Obviously there are calc fields for the net adjusted totals as well. The only place that this rears it's ugly head is when I add the adjusted front side total to the adjusted back side total (adj_fr_tot=adj_bk_tot). All else is working well including the colors in the browse that varies between double bogies and double eagles.

        Thank you for reading,
        efs

          Hi Tom,

I pretty much have what you describe, see my other reply.

            Ed,

If you added 21 fields for the net score on each hole, each side, and total there would be less processing required at one time. Instead of having to adjust (gross to net) and then sum, the adjustments would be done one hole at a time. The 9 and 18 hole totals would be simple sums.
