Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Help with $$90878907.mpx

    Hi,

    After running the following code for a lookup array, I get a couple of $$1222.mpx files in the directory.

    dim global v_PayorID as C
    dim inputf as p
    dim count as n

    inputf = table.Open("Ser_Prov")
    query.description = ""
    query.order = "PAYOR"
    query.filter = "PTE_ID=VAR->V_PTEID"
    query.options = "MU"
    indx = inputf.query_create()

    count = indx.records_get()+1

    dim choices(count) as c

    i = 1
    inputf.fetch_first()
    while .not. inputf.fetch_eof()
    choices(i) = Trim(inputf.payor)+"-"+trim(inputf.program)+" - "+inputf.payorid
    inputf.fetch_next()
    i = i + 1
    end while
    'sort_array("choices")
    v_PayorID = ui_get_list_array("Select a Payor Below", 1,"Choices")
    v_Payorid = word(v_Payorid,-1)
    inputf.query_detach_all()
    inputf.close()
    -----------------------
    I think I am not detaching the query properly.

    Thanks

    Tom

    tom,

    Two things:

    1) I don't recognize a query option of MU ?

    2) I don't think detaching a query list is the same thing as deleting it from the directory.

    Does the presence of the MPX disturb anything?

    Have you configured the database to delete query lists on exit?

      RE: Help with $$90878907.mpx

      Hi Tom,

      I do have an OnExit script to delete .mpx files, I was just trying to "clean" my code up if I was doing something wrong.

      Regarding "MU" I may be using it wrong, but I picked it from the following list I found in Cals Help Files:
      -----------------------------------------
      Code Description
      N Builds a query list even if an index matches the query definition.

      D The Descending Order option puts the records in descending alphabetical order or, for a numeric field, from highest to lowest value.

      U The Unique option includes only unique records in the query list.

      M If this option is specified, Alpha Five will build a new query list even though; a.) an existing query list exists, and b.) an existing Index exists (both of which, Alpha Five could have used rather than running a new query).
      X If this option is specified, Alpha Five will use an index even if an existing query exists (which Alpha Five would otherwise have used in preference to the index)
      --------------------------------------------

      Thanks for taking look

      Tom

        Tom,

        I'd always assumed that the option was limited to a single character. Have you verified that it actually does both, when you include both M and U ?

          I know the "U" works (unique) and assume the "M" works, as it always seems to use the current information.

            Ther was a thread a while back where someone had a problem forcing Alpha to always do a new query regardless of what option they chose.By naming the query when creating it the following seemed to work all the time.

            on error goto not_there
            indx = tb1.index_get("Named-Query")
            indx.drop()
            not_there:
