Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Printing rich text

In the attached database, (I hope it fits) I have a report called choral fsma report. If I start from the opening menu, click open district chair reports then click Print choral fsma report and select preview part of the rich text object is cut off. If I go to the control panel (every screen should have a hot spot top right of center) and click design then preview it prints fine. If I start from the control panel and double click on the report, it gets cut off. Since I want to send a run time out to the various districts, they can't print from the control panel design. The rich text object was copied from a microsoft word document, if that helps.

I tried to remove and then replace the object but I still get the same results.

    Any Ideas?

    Thanks
    Jim

      RE: Printing rich text

Jim, I'm not certain which of the many RTF objects on your layout you are referencing, but when I preview your report here, it doesn't not fit on an 8 x 11.5 sheet, so the 10th detail item on pg 1 (for example) gets trimmed off.

Your layout is not fitting within the 'printable zone' on the sheet.

Each modern (deskjet, laserjet) printer has an unprintable zone along each of the 4 edges of the sheet. Most are 0.5" wide, some printers wider.

Your layout is 8 x 11.5, with 0.25" margins, not 0.5 or 0.6 margins (all four sides).

I suggest you increase your margins, or you adjust the properties of the Report to Shrink overflow data to fit on single page, instead of it's present setting (which trims off the overflow data.)

        RE: Printing rich text

        Jim,

        I meant to say 8.5 x 11, instead of 8 x 11.5. (Guess I'll have to go get a cup of coffee!)

Anyway, if any of the objects on your layout extend into the 'unprintable' zone along the top, bottom, or side edges of your sheet, those become 'overflow' data... won't fit ... and alpha needs to know whether to trim, or shrink.

The darn thing about this is that your users will have different printers, each of which may have slightly different sized 'unprintable' zones.

I suggest you either set to shrink to fit, or you change your layout so that nothing extends closer than 0.6" to any edge of your sheet.

I knbew it woulkd be you who replied.
The area that gets cut off is just above the assesment date and assessment site line.
If I print from the button on the chairman's report menu, Itcuts off part of that line. If I go to control panel and click design then print preview, it prints fine. If I go to control panel and double click the report, part of it gets cut off. The part that is cut off is about 1/3 of the way down the page. That's what makes this confusing. The part this is cut off is not along any margin.
          I'll try your suggestion.
          Thanks
          Jim

The plot thickens a bit. I tried your suggestion about shrinking the report to fit. I called the report from the report menu and it looked fine. I called it from the control panel and got the same behavior as before. I tried again from the menu and I'm back to where I started.
I had other problems with this form. I had asked to keep the group together on the page (it's a two line report) but I still broke the lines at the page break. There was a fix on the web sit which downloaded and installed but it seemed to have no effect.

            I'm stumped
