Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

RTF Memo Appears on Other Tab Pages

This problem has been mentioned in another thread a few months ago. I tried the suggestions to no avail.

I have a RTF memo box on the first tab of a form containing four other tabs. If I go to any of the other tabs and change the record the memo box appears over or under the objects on these pages. The only way I've found to eliminate this is to set the memo field as number 1 in the tab order. So when the database is opened, the RTF Edit toolbar appears. I would like the form to open up with the cursor on the Proposal Date field ready for data entry.

The database is attached to the 4th message in the 'Set Order Problem on Query Form' thread if anyone wants to look into it. The file is called Projects.zip. When you open the database with the 'Proposals' form you'll see the focus on a big RTF box called 'Job Description' Try changing the tab order to begin at the top and you'll see the memo box appearing on other tab pages when the record is changed.

I would greatly appreciate any help anyone can give or suggestions on how to improve the database.

    Charles :)

RE: RTF Memo Appears on Other Tab Pages

My appolgies to those who downloaded and tried to open the 'Projects' database. There was a form that was inadvertantly saved in another directory and thus wasn't in the zipped file.

Anyway, attached is the database now called 'Europave.zip' Enter the application through the 'Proposals' form. The Projucts tab opens with focus on the RTF memo form. This is the only way I've found to avoid having the box appear on other tab pages when I change records. To duplicate the problem I have try changing the tab order on the Projects tab to begin at the top field where it should.

I appreciate any help someone can give.

    Charles :)

RE: RTF Memo Appears on Other Tab Pages

I loaded your database and open proposals form. Saw the RTF memo field job description.

Changed the tab order to make it stop 11 and went through the form tabs and didn't see anything unusual. The memo field only appeared on the first tab stop - Proposals not Projects.

Are you on version 4.5 and build 266?

Any other instructions that might help recreate the problem?

Thanks for looking at my database Al.

After changing the tab order go to the invoice tab. Then click the 'Next' Nav button on the top toolbar to advance to the next record. The box appears on all the other tab pages when you change records.

RE: RTF Memo Appears on Other Tab Pages

Pretty neat effect. How did you do it? :)

The database compact didn't affect it.

It doesn't look like the RTF overlaps the tabs or is too close to the edge.

I built an empty form and added a tabbed item with the RTF field on one tab and a couple of invoice fields on the next tab and still had the same problem. Heck it even does it without another fields on the tabbed form. So it's not a corrupted form.

It is only the data portion of the field that is appearing on all tabs, not the label part of the field.

It doesn't display on the other tabs if in entry mode.

Looking at the projects table, I was suspicious of the OLE field. Took it out and the form still did it.

Then built the simple tabbed form with only the RTF field based on the projects table (not the set) and still had the problem.

For what it's worth, it does work properly in version 5.
The only notification that I got from version 5 is that the tool bar is the old format.

In 4.5 I duplicated the table named it as project2 and built the simple form again and it worked properly.
I did only copy the records though. When I tried it with the field rules, it carried the problem forward.

I exported the data and reimported into another table name - project2 and the problem was gone.

Continuing on to replacing projects caused an integrity mismatch in the set.

It appears that the table projects has a corrupted data dictionary that is causing the problem. You might try going to back up to see when the problem snuck in. Otherwise you'll need to rebuild some parts until it is fixed.

            Hi Al!

I can't believe you went through all that trouble to try and find the problem. I sure do appreciate your perseverance. If you're correct about the data dictionary being corrupted, I wish I knew what I did to accomplish that. :) It would be nice if there was some way to look at the data dictionary and edit it directly.

            Thanks again! Charles :)

I doubt that you did anything 'wrong' to cause the corruption. Sometimes it just happens. That's why backups are real important.

Good luck. It looks like you are doing a good job.
