Can someone point me in the right direction?
I have several different product lines (11 in all) each one begins with a different prefix (Cobras="CC", LM3600="KD"). I have created separate tables for each product and can get those tables to provide me with an autoincrement serial number (each product is at different place in their life cycle -- Cobras are on serial number CC 00108, LM3600s are at KD 00624, etc).
I have a main table (SerialNumberLog) where I want to record every piece of equipment - the date, model, serial number, who it was sold to, the contract number. In the SerialNumberLog I created a cascading table lookup that works quite nicely to get the correct prefix based on the model, and I was then able to do a conditional table lookup based on the prefix to open the appropriate table lookup (I checked off user can enter a new record), but it was awkward getting the next serial number.
What I really want to happen is based on the prefix, open the correct table, create the next autoincrement number and return that number to the serial number field in the current (SerialNumberLog) table.
As you may have guessed -- I have only being using Alpha for about a month -- I have looked in XBasic for Everyone and the XBasic Reference Manual, I have tried to find something similar here on the message board, but I am currently in brain overload and every time I think I know which direction to head in... I am wrong again ...
Can someone help?
