How do I setup "1 of 3" on form?

Can somebody give me some idea as how I can add the four records buttons and number of total records in query or list or index to a form?

ie

start, back, number in list, total in list, forward, end

I cannot find a way in at the moment.

recno() 'would give you the current record

To get the total number I use:

tbl = table.current()
indx = tbl.index_primary_get()'or query
records = indx.records_get()
ui_msg_box("Record Count","Active Client Records = "+ltrim(str(records)))
END

For the first, previous, next, and Last I'd let the Action Script do the work.

When you get it working, I'd appreciate a copy.

the four keys were no problem, used action scripts, graphics used were tool210,tool211,tool212 and tool214 in the A5 library.

I know recno() works fine, but this gives the physical record number in the table. I want the relative sequential number in the index or query. ie record 2 of 3 etc.

I don't know why this should be slow. I suspect the event to which the code is attached. Why not experiment by attaching the code to a button on the form and observing if there is any speed difference.

Graham - when is the query for the form created. Your code is at the onactivate event. Are you first creating a query and then opening the form? idx.records_get() should be almost instant unless you have a large table - like 100,000+ records.

If I understand corretly, you are using buttons on the form to advance one record or go back one record. (You will also have to deal with the operator using the PageUP and PageDown keys, too.) If you are placing a variable between the buttons to keep track of the sequential number, play around with something like this:

where "records" (session variable, numeric)= the record count for the query, obtained at your onactivate script,
and
"whichrecord" (session variable, numeric)

"recordused" (session variable, character) in between your buttons you would place "recordused"

on activate
your initial script
records=idx.records_get()
tbl.fetch_first()
whichrecord=1
recordused.value=ltrim(str(whichrecord)) + " of " + ltrim(str(records))

if they push the left button
if whichrecord > 1
parentform.fetch_prev()

I was gradually getting there. I cannot find what the values for 'page up' and 'page down' should be when used with the A_user.key value variable oin an OnKey script, can you help?

search in the manual for sys_send_keys() - it gives all the values for a user_key.value

although, I have had better luck with ^ for the Control than CTRL
