Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Exiting properly from Alpha

I run Alpha 5 version 4.5 using Windows ME. If I have Alpha open with any other program the other program runs painfully slowly. I usually exit Alpha when working on something else. However just lately even when I exit Alpha things just chug alone. If I press control-alt-delete the window tells me that Alpha 5 is not responding. I click on end task and the performance improves. It seems that even though I have exited from Alpha it is still using resources and is running in the background. Is there a "right way" to exit completely from Alpha?

    RE: Exiting properly from Alpha

a5.close() (should be the last statement of your close button script) will close alpha and your app - however, if after you do this and still see Alpha in ctrl-alt-delete dialog, you have something else going on.

try the above - and post back if it still shows up

I have that A5.close defined but I am trying a way to disable the "X" button on the top corner right, so that users will be forced to use the EXIT button which A5.close is defined.
Is there a way to do this?

Be sure you have an exit button on the form first. Test it to make sure it works. Right click on the form and select actions. In the CAN EXIT section put an inline x-basic command cancel(). Be sure you have a working exit button otherwise you won't be able to close the program.

          Good Luck

Tried it however, that is not what I am looking for. I am talking about the buttons of the app (minimize, maximize, exit) at the top right corner. I want to disable the "X".
Does anyboday how to do it? Thanks.

If you look at the properties of the form and select the 'Windows' tab you will have an option to disable the items that you mention.

I already checked that one. There are only 4 items that can be enabled (i.e. Sizeable, System menu, Minimize button, Maximize button) but it is not the one that I am looking for. What I want is to disable the "X" in order for the user to use the created Exit button to exit A5 properly.
                Is this possible?

                  RE: Exiting properly from Alpha

If you are tying to remove the X that closes A5, you can not do that. You can remove it from a form. Just make sure the system menu option in for properties on the window tab is unclicked. That will remove the X for the form. The X that closes A5 will still be active.

While you can not hide the A5 X, you can trap the exit. If you have menu form that is always open, put cancel() in the forms CanExit event. If someone tries to close A5 with the X, the cancel will prevent it as long as the form is open, since A5 has to close the form first to close the program. If the form can't close, A5 can't close.

                    Jerry,
I have put the cancel() on my forms and it worked! Thanks!
However, I am noticing that the F8 function (switching screens) feature was disabled. Is there a way that I could use the cancel() and F8 functions together?

                    Any help is appreaciated. Trixie.
