PROBLEM IN DISPLAYING M.INITIAL

i have a program that will enter a last name, first name and middle name, then i will display in order, sample,

Last Name : Gomez
First Name : Richard
Middle Name : De Guzman

the output must be look like this:

Richard DG. Gomez

watch out for the middle initial, there are 2 letters, how can i do this? there are so many middle name like this, sample:

San Pedro
San Sibastian
San Isidro
San Juan
De Guzman
Dela Cruz
Dela Basia
De San Miniryo
De La Paz

what is the solution to this? i want to get the first letter of the word of there middlename.

What do you mean by, "then i will display in order,"? Are you entering this data?

"how can i do this?" Do what?? What is it you want to do?

"what is the solution to this?" Solution to what?


Let me try a guess; you want to show only the middle name?? But where? On a form, On a report?

If that's what you want to do, search the message board using:

"function to strip all alpha characters"

I think there is an easier way to do this, but this will work. If, in the "customers" table, you had a field called "fullname", at the cansave event for the file, in field rules, you could put something like this
temp=""
t=table.get("customers")
for i=1 to w_count(t.middle)
temp=temp + upper(substr(word(t.middle,i),1,1))
next i
temp=temp + "."
t.fullname=alltrim(t.first) + " " + alltrim(temp) + " " + alltrim(t.last)

I think he wants only the first initial of the first part of the middle name.

I believe it would be a calculated field that looks something like this;

If(isblank("middelinit"), Alltrim(firstname)+" "+alltrime(lastname),
alltrim(firstname)+" "+substr,1,1(middleinit)+". "+alltrim(lastname)
