Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    printing current selection of records

    I would greatly appreciate any help this forum can provide.
    The problem is after running a query for a set of records, based on a field being checked or not, I can view the correct subset of records found, I have a button on the form that has the following code
    the script called "ticket2", prints different reports based on the actual current record. they have their filter set to "current record" using recno()=current(recno())

    Button code
    tbl = table.current()
    tbl.fetch_first()
    while .not. tbl.fetch_eof()
    script_play("ticket2")
    tbl.fetch_next()
    end while

    the problem is, you can see the selected records, but the program only prints the first record in the database.

    it looks to me like the record pointer is accessing record 1 of the whole set of records not the first record of the selected records.
    I really need to resolve this ASAP,
    Thanks in advance

    RE: printing current selection of records

    Rick,

    I can't give you a specific answer. We don't know what your script says nor to we know how your report is set up. The key is in both and I know you realize that and you're looking for a specific answer.

    Can you give us your script and tell us how you set up the report. It sounds like you playing one filter against another.

    Knowing what you can achieve will not become reality until you imagine and explore.

      Rick:

      the button should just execute the script. the rest of the logic can be handled by the script.

      What is the script doing? The report is eveidently being generated through the script. We can not see what the problem is.

      I hope this helps.

        RE: printing current selection of records

        Ken, Here is the code of "ticket2" and one of the sub-scripts, I am trying to convert a functioning A4v6 program to A5v4.5, this particular routine in the DOS version does a search, and then depending on the content of specific fields, it prints "tickets" of 1 to 5 tickets in length with different content/data as well.
        in th eDOS version I used some of the "sys" commands to find the numbeer of records in the selected set, and then using a "loop" function to run through the records. the code is not "pretty" but has been working for 6 years.
        If you need anything else, let me know
        Thanks for the prompt reply

            RE: printing current selection of records

            Rick,

            Even with the scripts you have posted I still can't be certain what the issue is but I suspect it is related to a basic difference between A4 and A5.

            In A4 a table only existed in one state; i.e., the table is open, the current record is X, the current index is Y, and the current filter is Z. In A5 you can have multiple copies of a table open and each can be on a different record using a different index and different filter. I suspect that your reports are not using the same "copy" of the tables that your scripts are using.

            The first thing I would do is check to see if your reports are set to use the currently selected records. If so and they still aren't printing correctly, try setting the report selection to "none" and then supply the sort order and filter through the Xbasic command:
            report.preview( ""report_name>", filter_exp, order_exp )

            There are a number of other options also. That's one of the problems with learning any Windows database; the number of ways to do something creates a lot of power but also creates a lot of confusion at first.
