Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Does anyone know a CRM application for Alpha Five?

    Hi,

I'm looking for a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) application that could be used in the latest version of Alpha Five.

    Any suggestion or comment?

    Regards,

RE: Does anyone know a CRM application for Alpha F

The whole idea of Alpha 5 is that you can develop your own. This allows you, who probably knows yours needs better than a software company someplace to make it work the way you want, and change it when you want. I'm sure there are developers on this board who have done things like what you want that could be modified to your needs if you don't want to develop your own.

We specialize in CRM solutions for the broadcast industry, horse tracks, theaters, and others. Unfortunately, our application is written in Visual Basic but I have been considering having it re-written in A5v5 when available. I have no doubt that you could develop a powerful CRM application in A5. I would be happy to share any info I have that might be helpful. You can email me at [email protected].

Thank you ALL for your answers and feedbacks!

My company is a software development and marketing firm.
We are looking for an off-the-shelf CRM application that can be used in Alpha Five. Other options we are considering are Goldmine, SalesLogix, and Connect-Care. We need a relational database (ideally, a client/server) that allows about 10 concurrent users to add, view and edit Sales, Marketing and Tech Support information.

I agree that "the whole idea of Alpha 5 is that you can develop your own". But sometimes when the requirements are not that specific it may make more sense to buy something already developed and "tested", than trying to re-invent the wheel. Of course we expect some sort of customization.

We currently use Alpha Four v3 as our Contact Management application. Here are some of our new requirements:

          * Easier way to create and manipulate groups.
          * Send email to groups (Bulk emails).
          * Copy and paste capabilities from/to other windows applications.
          * Send email directly from contact record, without additional typing.
          * Callback scheduling with priorities assigned.
          * Ability to have multiple contacts for a company.
          * Unlimited memo/notes field.
          * Calendar integration.
          * Assign priority to leads (e.g.: LOW, HIGH, VERY HIGH).
          * Link email messages with contacts records.
          * Ability to add several addresses.
          * Provide several reports about company situation (Sales Pipeline/Forecast, Sales Reports, Salesmen activities, etc.)
          * Easy way to search for text in all records.
          * Link attachments with contact records.
          * Keep track of all interactions with each customer.
          * Maintain a knowledge database of FAQ and answers.
          * Be able to use the system on the road in an "off-line" mode and sync the new information when back to the office.

Your postings, as always, are really appreciated.

          --Enrique

P.S.: For those who asked me about what I meant by CRM, here is a good definition:

"CRM (Customer Relationship Management): An integrated information system that is used to plan, schedule and control the presales and postsales activities in an organization. Although the dividing lines are not crystal clear, CRM generally does not include the marketing function and could be said to be enterprise relationship management (ERM) without the marketing component. Sales force automation (SFA) evolved into CRM, which became a greatly hyped buzzword by the turn of the century.

The clear objective for CRM is to enable a customer to interact with a company through various means including the Web, telephone, fax, e-mail and snail mail and receive a consistent level of quality service. The integration of all activities means that an order placed by phone can be tracked on the Web and vice versa."
