Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Action scripting problem

I'm using v5 beta and I have a problem with the 'goto label' action. It appears to be Ok until the button is pushed and I get 'Error - missing or invalid symbol'. when I view the xbasic it shows -
'jump to label into script: 'begin'.
    GOTO
    and nothing more.

I have tried various solutions but to no avail. Can anyone help?

        RE: Action scripting problem

Now this is getting silly! The first line keeps disappearing when I "send"

The first line has a single quote at the start and the word GOTO is on the second line.

jump to label into script: 'begin'. GOTO

          RE: Action scripting problem

          OK I give up!

The first line begins with a single quote then jump to label into script then a colon, a space and a single quote then begin then a single quote and a dot The second line is the word GOTO

I hope someone out there understands this because I don't!

          best regards

            Peter,

Keep in mind the beta version does not have all features active. Those that are active, may have a bug or two. Also, some keystrokes such as the blackslash get dropped when posting to this board.

              RE: Action scripting problem

This is a bit hard to understand given your problems sending but if you look in the documentation you will see that the goto command must be followed by a label to which the code should jump.

              e.g.
              goto end
              code
              more code
              end:
              code to jump to

So your sample seems to omit the label.

                Peter,

Why don't you copy the complete script to a text file and attach the file, rather than trying to put the script in the forum message. This will make it easier for someone to take a look at it.

One thing that may be creating a problem is that the label can not be a restricted word or a word that is used in other commands. Words like "select", "delete", etc will not work as labels. If you are using the word "begin" as the label, try a different label name like "begin_it" and see what happens.

                  RE: Action scripting problem

Thanks for the replies and I tried the solutions suggested but no luck. I have the code in a text file but I can't see how to send it, when I check the box to Attach File nothing happens. The box is checked but it does not ask me what file to attach - I'm beginning to think that I am totally incapable!

What I need to achieve via a push button on a form is to open and display 3 forms in turn and then to repeat the process. so I put a label a as the first action and a GOTO action at the end and the problem showed up. I have often used similar sequences under version 4 and 4.5 without difficulty.

If this method doesn't work for v5 is there another way to achieve the looping of three forms to display?

                  Thanks to everyone

                    RE: Action scripting problem

                    Peter,

I just tried using action scripting in A5V5 build 1112 to set up a goto to a label and initially got the same result. At first, I though it was a bug, but if you do not put a condition in the jump to condition entry field, all you will get is

                    GOTO

(no label added after the goto). If you defined the label name as A, the xbasic generated should have been

                    GOTO A

If I put a condition in the entry as follows

                    dummy""

(dummy is a previously defined variable), the xbasic script generated is

                    if dummy"" then
                    GOTO A
                    end if

Now for any of this to work, I have to set up a label A somewhere in the script. The action script just sets up the goto statement. You have to use the action scripting command Insert label, either before or after the goto label command. If it is before and you convert that to xbasic, you get

                    A:
                    ' add script stuff here

                    if dummy"" then
                    GOTO A
                    end if

Now if dummy is not blank, the script will jump back to the location A:

Hope this clears up your problem. Although the action scripting command dialog suggests that the condition can be blank, that does not work. This may be a bug. Of course, you could convert the action scripting to xbasic and just add the label to the goto yourself.

                    GOTO A

                    Jerry

Just an update. Your problem has been identified by Alpha as a bug and will be fixed in one of the next builds.
