Memo Field Xbasic Syntax Question

I have a form based on a set. I have calculated a string variable (ToxText) and want to use a script (attached to a button) to write ToxText to a memo field on the open form. I tried the following but it doesn't work:

:Cassenhairrptfrm:Toxmemo.value = ToxText
:Cassenhairrptfrm:Toxmemo.Refresh()

When I execute
?:Cassenhairrptfrm:Toxmemo.value
in interactive mode the current contents are displayed... but I can't manage to change the value of the memo field.

How can I update the value of this memo field?

Try the .text property,

Cassenhairrptfrm:Toxmemo.text = ToxText

instead of the ".value" property.

Thanks... but... crashed Alpha4.5!!

When I directly enter text into the memo field, then go to the button action editor / interactive and enter
?:Cassenhairrptfrm:Toxmemo.value I get the text that I just entered.
When I enter
?:Cassenhairrptfrm:Toxmemo.text (as you suggest) I get "TOXMENO"

I have tried entering the data via xbasic to the set (using tbl = table.current(), change_begin etc... but this didn't work either)

My searches through the archives and through the manuals indicate that I should be able to make field entries in the currently active form using XBasic attached to a button on the form... it's gotta be something pretty simple that I am missing.

David, here's a simple example illustrating one approach to doing what you describe.

Unzip the attachment to a separate folder. Do not mix it with your development work.

I had tried the following when I first started to do this:
tbl = table.current()
tbl.change_begin()
tbl.ToxMemo = ToxText
tbl.change_end(.t.)
parentform.resynch()
... and couldn't get it to work!!

Your code worked fine!!

tbl = table.current(2) 'get pointer to child table
if tbl.mode_get() = 0 then
tbl.change_begin()
end if
tbl.notes = calc->testcalc + tbl.notes
tbl.change_end(.t.)
parentform.resynch()
end
