Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    query genie button?

Is it possible to create a query genie button while editing a form? I noticed a query genie icon in the toolbar-which is just a picture, but I would like to create a button that is labelled query genie with a picture. Thanks for your past and present help! This has been such a wonderful forum for some much needed help.

    Sincerely,
    Rhea.

    RE: query genie button?

    Rhea,

The style of a button is one of its properties.

Among the style choices are text, text over bitmap, bitmap only... and so on.

If you're asking whether an image can be pasted on to a button in lieu of text, the answer is yes, provided the image is in bitmap format.

      RE: query genie button?

      Hi Tom,
I am aware how to create a button-but there seems to be no option to create a button to perform the task of "Query Genie". Are you aware of how to do this?
      Thanks for your reply,
      Rhea.

If you mean you want to activate the query genie with the press of a button on a form, place this code on the onpush event for the button.

        sys_send_keys("{ALT-Q}")
        sys_send_keys("{G}")
        There can be only one.

          Hi Stan,
This sounds like it would work, but I'm having trouble trying to figure out where to place the codes. Could you describe, in detail, how to create this button? Thanks:-)
          Rhea.

            RE: query genie button?

            Rhea,

            Create the button.
            Save the form.
Open the form in design mode.
            Right click on the button.
            Choose Actions.
            Choose OnPush Event.
            Follow Stan's directions.
            Save the form.

              RE: query genie button?

Use the normal method for creating a new button, when the genie inquires whether you want to use

Built in Action or Custom Action

choose Custom. Choose your style and text for the button as usual. Right click on the new button and choose "Actions". Click on (select) the "Action Script" icon in the Code Editor. Go to the code menu on the menubar, choose "Convert to Xbasic", type or paste in the two lines I gave you. Close the editor, save your form and give it a try.
              There can be only one.

                Hi Stan,
Your instructions where right on, however, when I click on the new button, it only seems to activate a pull down action of the Query heading on the toolbar. Perhaps there are other lines I should paste in?

                Thanks,
                Rhea.

                  RE: query genie button?

sys_send_keys("{ALT-Q}") - this should activate the menubar choice "Query"

sys_send_keys("{G}") - this should make the menu choice "Genie" and the genie should open

These are two separate lines in the script attached to the button.

                  Did you copy and paste or did you retype? If you retypeed, make sure the characters immediately inside the quote marks are curly brackets. {}

"retypeed"?, must be time to go home.

                      RE: query genie button?

I think I see what the problem is. The coding would work just fine if I actually had a shortcut key to Query Genie. I see in the menu that only "Query by form" has a shortcut key of "ctrl+Q", and the rest of the items listed have no shortcut key. Well, thanks for your help anyway-although all is not lost, as I have learned something new now for future reference.

                      sincerely,
                      Rhea.
