Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How to "exit" the record on a cancel?...

    I created a toolbar... moved the xbasic scripts from the forms buttons to the toolbar... changed the "parent.restrict, parent.cancel, etc... to this.cancel, etc... .. everything works as planned except when you cancel from edit mode. The field is still in focus and accepting input.. even tho I told it to not allow writes.. (this.restrict_change and this.restrict_enter) I thought sending a tab after its cancelled and locked would fix it but that has no effect at all... when I unlock it for enter or change mode I send a tab to get the focus to the first field in the tab order and that works well.

    And its only when you cancel from edit mode... enter mode cancels properly...

    RE: How to

    I'm not sure what is supposed to happen when you cancel a script in edit mode (do you mean change?). If the form reverts to view mode a field will still accept focus.

    Have you tried a refresh of the form which you can test by pressing F5 manually?

      RE: How to

      Hi Jeff

      Canceling from Change mode is a bit different, at least from what I have found.
      For canceling modifications in Change mode try

      parentform.cancel()
      parentform.resynch()

      That ususally works for me, and still gives the 2nd confirmation to cancel changes.

        RE: How to

        well.. I tried your parentform.resynch()... has no effect.. I am doing this from a toolbar if that makes a difference, which I believe it does.

        Sure hope the XBasic books from Alpha explain XBasic in depth a bit better than the included documentation.

          Hi Jeff
          What else is in the script on the toolbar? Post it if you want. Maybe we can tweak it up to get your cancel change to work properly.

            RE: How to

            Hi Mike.. thnx for responding...

            Heres the "New Record" button:

            this.restrict_enter=.f.
            this.restrict_change=.f.
            this.new_record()
            sys_send_keys("{TAB}")

            Heres the "Edit Record button:

            this.restrict_change=.F.
            sys_send_keys("{TAB}")

            And here is the "Cancel" button:

            this.restrict_enter=.t.
            this.restrict_change=.t.
            this.cancel()

            And I tried it like this too:

            this.cancel()
            this.restrict_enter=.t.
            this.restrict_change=.t.

            The "cancel" button works as planned when you are in Enter mode.. but if you are in Change mode it doesnt take the cursor from the field so the field is still accepting input instead of being all dark.

            This has got to be something simple.. and since I am just starting this AlphaFive stuff, I am still at the bottom of the learning curve :)

            And thanks in advance to all who answer my (noob) questions.

            Jeff K.

              RE: How to

              Oh.. and to answer Williams question.. an F5 (refresh) does nothing to move the focus, so I guess its not a screen refresh solution.

              I am still waiting on the Dr. Peter Wayne Xbasic book from Alpha.. sure hope it gets here before the weekend.. I could use a little light reading... lol

                RE: How to

                If the cancel worked the way you wanted while it was a button on the form, keep the code on a button and try putting:
                "button1.push()"
                as the code in the toolbar if the button name was button1
