Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

PRINTING INFO TO EPSON POS PRINTER

Has anyone succesfully sending printing job via
COM-PORT or LPT1 to an EPSON TM88 thermal Point Of Sale
    Printer,

Currently I am doing it via "Window Driver"
the result has been poor, as the long delay and slow motion.

I was told that the best way is to by pass the window driver
and use the Epson Scrips language or ?

    Your help is greatly appreciated

RE: PRINTING INFO TO EPSON POS PRINTER

I just had success going to a printer just like yours. I down loaded the partial cut driver for the printer from Scansouce.com I ran into a problem after I began to use the driver because it would add 3 extra paper cuts after each print. I made the recipt form a little smaller and it worked fine.

RE: PRINTING INFO TO EPSON POS PRINTER

      Hi Don,

I have no problem with the control of the cutting portion.
Where I am having real problem is when I send my print job to EPson printer, it sit there for many moments before starting to print, yet if we are to print from Window MS-WORD document, wooh the printer run like a normal laser printer connected locally.

That is the portion I do not understand and try everything I could. If you do not mind the delay, yes it is ok..
But in production run, where the user need to rip off the paper and move on to the next job, we simply annot tolerate the delay ( up to 1 minute) long

RE: PRINTING INFO TO EPSON POS PRINTER

        Ken,

If your printer behaves like a dot matrix, you might want to search this board for threads involving slow dot matrix printing. If I recall correctly many recommend using a font in your report layout that is supported internally by the hardware in your printer. Otherwise, instead of firing 'pre-recorded' printer-pin combinations each character must be drawn graphically. In other situations horizontal lines included in the report layout seem to cause unexpected delays.

In the previous message I am describing three separate searches, not one that contains multiple terms connected with and.

RE: PRINTING INFO TO EPSON POS PRINTER

                thanks tom,

this printer TM88 is not a dotmatrix, but a thermal.
I am pretty sure the problem is identical.

funny, if i output word or excel to it, it performs extremely fast, like a laser printer.

And when ALPHA's output to it, wooh... like a turtle for sure, often up to 45 seconds delay

                  Ken,

Is your Word document using the same font as your Alpha Five layout?

Is your Word document using the same line height as your Alpha Five layout?

These are the items most people find need to be tweaked in order to use a dot matrix. since the thermal printer probably prints one line at a time, using dots, I think it's going to be similar.

RE: PRINTING INFO TO EPSON POS PRINTER

                    Ken,
I have sold a few of these printers. Most POS printers will cause problems with Windows, unless you adjust the Spool settings.

                    - From the Start menu, select printers
                    - highlight the TM88ii icon
                    - right click on the icon and select properties
                    - from the 'details' tab then select spool settings

You can set the printer to print 'raw' data and you can select the data to print directly to the printer. You may have to try a few settings to get it right for your setup.

                    Regards,
                    --Bob
