Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    short xbasic code question

    I am trying to highlight a record in a browse on a form(mouse), press a button which has the following code on it, and have the system date entered into a blank field(workdone, field 3).
    Focus should stay there (next record)so the operator can keep pushing the button to mark records as being completed with an occasional need to arrow over a record that is not yet completed.

    Can one of you xBasic gurus comment on the following(be gentle):

    ''XBasic
    tbl = table.current()
    while .not. tbl.fetch_eof()
    tbl.change_begin()
    field(tbl,3)
    date()
    end while
    commit()
    tbl.Fetch_Next()
    parent.resynch()

    the field(tbl,3) errors out
    code partially stolen from a previous post

    Thanks
    tc

    RE: short xbasic code question

    Hi Tom
    Heres my twist. If you want a button to enter the date, but still have navigational functions (move between records), I would have 3 buttons - Previous, Change, Next

    The change button code would be something like
    tbl=table.current()
    form_object_name.activate()
    tbl.change_begin()
    tbl.date_field=system->date
    tbl.change_end()
    parentform.resynch()

    Note: The script does not set any index, or fetch any starting record, so whereever you are is where it starts, and in the current index order.

    The "Next" button would be
    tbl=table.current()
    if .not. tbl.fetch_eof()
    tbl.fetch_next()
    parentform.resynch()
    end
    else
    ui_msg_box("Warning","No more records to change")
    end
    end if

    Something to that affect. Hope that helps a little
    Mick

      Opps. Totally misread your post about this field being in a browse. I was thinking it was a field on a form, thus the

      field_name.activate() command may not apply.

      You may have to tweak that a bit.

        Hey again
        I got bored so I made a little app the sort of does what you are wanting to do. I think.

        Unzip to a dummy folder.

          Mick,
          Just began working with your previous reply, however, your zip doesn't seem to hold anything I can get at.
          Thanks

                      Hi Tom
                      Take the UI_Freeze commands out of the arrow buttons. I was playing with that *after* I sent the first one.. well tried to send it anyway.

                        The line you changed should be

                        mode=your_form_name.mode_get()

                        not tbl.mode_get()

                        :) Fun isnt' it?

                          Oh heck.. lets make this thread really long haha.

                          The reason its erroring is this

                          tbl.mode_get() returns a 0, 1 or 2.

                          form_name.mode_get() returns "View", "Change" or "Enter"
                          respectively.

                            Mick,
                            Yeah, I picked up on the 0,1,2 thing but didn't connect it to form_view, tbl_view. So I changed the "enter, change, view" to 0,1,2 but still.....

                            fixed

                            now...
                            browse1:date.activate() returns incorrect data type.
                            Is that the only error I can expect to see with xbasic?
                            haha

                              You really are my hero.
                              date was your field name not mine.

                              I AM beginning to understand at least the basic syntax of Xbasic.
                              It now works as described.
